Enhance Your Breasts Naturally

Types Of Breast Implants

A breast enlargement (or breast augmentation) is a form of cosmetic surgery that entails the implantation of prosthesis to increase the size and shape of a woman’s breasts. These breast enlargements are usually required to reconstruct the breast when genetic deformities come into play or following a mastectomy. In some cases, gender reassignment, specifically male-to-female, necessitates breast enlargements and/or construction. In any case, this procedure serves to enhance the woman’s appearance and raise her self-esteem.

Types of Implants

Four types of breast enlargements include:

Saline Implants: a silicone rubber shell filled with sterile saline

Silicone Gel: a silicone rubber shell filled with a sticky silicone gel. Cohesive gel is a variation on this type of implant.

String Implants: Polypropylene (PPP). This was dismissed by the FDA years ago due to complications brought on by post-operative growth.

Tissue-Engineered Implant: Artificially grown tissue cells combined with scaffold tissue. This is basically a regenerative tissue implant.

Techniques for Breast Enlargement

Breast Enlargement, regardless of the procedure used, requires a technique. Three breast enlargement techniques exist:

Sub-Glandular: Inserted between the Pectoralis Major and subcutaneous fat. This is the outermost-placing of the implant. Advantages: the implant will not shift from any contraction and the appearance is more natural. Disadvantages: outline of the implant is visible, rippling sensations are felt, and capsular contractures (the hardening of the breasts) occur.

Sub-Fascial: Inserted between the pectoralis Major and its covering fascia.

Sub-Muscular: Inserted behind the Pectoralis Major and against the ribcage. This is the innermost-placing of an implant. Advantages: Mammograms are more successful and the implant is not visible. Disadvantages: Implants move due to activity of the Pectoralis Major muscles, creating a bizarre appearance.

Risks of Breast Enlargements

Rupture: Implants break, causing their contents to leak. Saline implants deflate, but gel implants do not necessarily. Saline (salt water) can be reabsorbed into the surrounding tissue, but silicone cannot and can cause complications. Breast enlargements, then, can be heath risks.

Capsular Contracture: Capsules of collagen within the body attach themselves against the implant (since it is a foreign body) and squeeze, causing pain and awkwardness in appearance. Bacterial infection, rupture of the implant and its resulting leakage, and hematoma occur. Hardening of the breasts is also a result.

Hematoma/Seroma: Blood collects in a body cavity (hematoma), and the water from the blood collects around the implant or healing incision (seroma). This leads to either an infection, capsular contracture, or both.

Extrusion: Implant comes through the skin at the incision site due to weak tissue, causing scarring and/or the loss of breast tissue. This is alarming, but it is probably the least serious.

Necrosis: Dead tissue around the incision site hinders the healing process, causing permanent scarring.

Breast enlargements are sometimes necessary, but they should be approached with care and caution. When it comes to health and physique, individual needs are of primary consideration. Breast enlargements are no exception!

    srry abt the nudity

    • ANSWER:
Could you clarify your question a bit? The webpage that you have linked explains the difference between the saline and silicone gel implants. The saline implant is filled with a water saline solution and the silicone gel is filled with a cohesive gel (like a gummy bear). There are only these two types of implants and there are only two companies that sell them (Allergan and Mentor). There are no differences between the implants from the two companies. The only thing that may differ is warranty.

If your trying to decide between the two (saline or gel), it depends on what your comfortable with. If you have very little body or breast fat, I would recommend the gel implants. Your going to get some visible rippling with the saline implants. Both implants will feel very soft and natural after implantation.

Just be sure to have your implants placed underneath the muscle and make sure to not go too big, otherwise you'll start looking unnatural.

  4. QUESTION:
What are the different types of BREAST IMPLANTS?
I'm a 34B/C and I've always wanted bigger boobs. Not massive ones, but at least the big ones who get that little bit of extra attention - maybe two cup sizes bigger maximum.

I was recently watching Big Brother UK (I know, I know, trash TV!) and there's a glamour model called Sophie Reade on the show. She has implants and she was talking about them saying her naturally large breasts started to sag, so she got implants "to fill them out on top". I think her boobs look really good, and not at all plasticy.

My questions are pretty simple - is what she described possible?? To have natural tissue and silicone at the same time to get a more realistic look? What are the different types of breast implant?

BTW, this is a serious question! Anyone checking my Q&A will see I fool around a lot (how I got a Top Contributor badge, I'll never know!), but this is an important issue for me.

    Oh yeah, thanks in advance!

    • ANSWER:
I have had 2 kids so I had saggy breast, but small saggy breast, I was a size 34B, saggy tissue! and I got Saline Breast Implants and now I'm a 34D. They look WAY better! the implant was acutally under my muscle, so my real boob is on top of the implant. My husband says they look more natural b/c they arent like tight tight(fake boob looking), they still have a slight sag but look VERY better being larger and filled out some of that extra skin I had hanging.

  5. QUESTION:
What is the difference in the type of breast implants?
The doctor has silicone gel implants and saline implants. The silicone gel implants feel most natural, however there is the negative press about silicone implants. The saline implants are cheaper and the scar is smaller. Has anyone heard anything different about the two? Are there any implant "users" or people who work in a plastic surgery center with an opinion about the two?

  7. QUESTION:

saline or silicone what looks more natural and where do you place it under a muscle, belly button armpit

    • ANSWER:

  8. QUESTION:
Types of fillers in breast implants?
I watched a show on breast implants a while back.
Now that i am considering getting them, i want to know the risks involved as i can't quite remember all of them.
    Also, healing times, and cost?

But most important, what is the better type of filler for breast implants, there is silicon which i think harms your body if leaked but what's the other?

    • ANSWER:
It depends on you body type. You have Silicon or Saline. You should discuss with your surgeon which breast implant filer suits you.

Saline is liquid and its less firm than Silicone. It is soft to touch and it still maintains its shape. It contains salt water.

Silicon can have different forms and % in firmness. It either consists of gel, oil, or elastomers.

This is all general info ofcours you need to sit with your doctor and discuss this.

      Good luck

  9. QUESTION:
Which type of breast implant is the safest?
I'm willing to get breast implants for myself and I'm 24. I would like to know of silicone and saline, which type of implant is more real? Also, in between silicone gel and saline implants, which one is safer (won't burst)?

    • ANSWER:
i would look into each one in more detail. But generally, silicone will be more real. But in my opinion saline is much safer. If the implant somehow burst, you would never be able to tell with silicone which is quite dangerous. Saline would be more obvious and would safely be absorbed into the body causing no problems.

  10. QUESTION:
    BREAST IMPLANTS QUESTION?
i know there are a couple types of breast implants.. some that are hard and some that feel like a regular boob.. i dont want my boobs to be saggy if i get implants but i dont want them to feel hard and gross.. what is each one called and will the non-hard one make it saggy [i want D's]

    • ANSWER:
There are 3 types of implants now.

      1. Silicon as a silicon gel.
      2. Saline in a silicon bag.
      3. Silicone with as a "gummy bear" type of consistency.

Here are the pro's and cons.
      1. Silicon as a silicon gel is the original type. If it ruptures, the silicon can leak into the tissues and cause RA type symptoms. Cheapest.

      2. Saline is filled in a silicon bag. If your body is sensitive to silicone, this one won't help you. If it ruptures, it only leaks saline solution, but is harmless since it's the same solution that you would get in an IV. Your implant will go flat in a matter of a day or two so you would need to have it removed and replaced. Saline is usually overfilled so it prevents creasing and rupture. It's less natural of a feel for this reason.

      3. Silicon "gummy bear". This is the most expensive, but it cannot rupture. It's relatively new on the market, but if you can afford it, this is what I would do. It also has a natural feel.

If you don't want your boobs to be saggy, have them placed under the muscle.

The hardness can be a result of capsular contraction. This is what happens when your body puts down scar tissue to protect itself from the foreign implants. It will keep putting down scar tissue until it's really tight and hard. this happens to women occasionally in which case they need the implant removed and aren't a good candidate for implants.

      Good luck!

  13. QUESTION:
    breast implants that feel real?
i'm not on my way to buy a pair tomorrow, but i'm considering the pro's and cons. my main reason for wanting them is weight fluctuation. when i lose 15lb and reach my ideal weight, my boobs lose their volume. so i feel like i'm forced to choose between everything else looking good and the boobs deflating, or feeling like a fat a$$ but having a nice full set of D's. what would be the best type of breast implant for someone who wants to fill in loose skin. are there any that feel more real than others? i don't want to feel like i'm stack'n coconuts in there. i would also prefer a more natural look. please don't try to lecture me, i may get them some day.....i may not. my choice.

    THANKS!
    lindsay(:

    • ANSWER:
First off, you don't have to defend yourself... if you want a boob job, get a boob job :P

Next, you have to be over 22 to get silicone (in US) and they're usually a bit more pricey (usually about a thousand bucks more). Salines are considered safer by most women and you can get those at 18. Depending on where you live, those will run you anywhere from 3-6K.

Since you already have tissue and excess skin from the weight loss, it really won't make a difference if you get silicone or saline, especially if you get it under the muscle (then your own body covers the implants).

  14. QUESTION:
    Breast feed with breast implants?
Can u still breast feed with any type of implants just wanna know?

    • ANSWER:
I am a plastic surgeon in Houston and yes, you can breast feed with any type of implant. Studies have shown that breast milk of implanted patients is exactly the same as that of non augmented patients.

It should be noted, however, that having your implants placed via a periareolar incision may influence your ability to deliver milk due to the cutting of some of the milk ducts during the procedure.

      I hope this helps

  15. QUESTION:
What is one of the best types of breast enlargement if your on a budget?
I don't exactly have the money for breast implants but i would like to have my breasts be just a little bit larger (not much) and i was wondering if anyone knew of some options. Also i know most people have been saying those pills such as breast success dont work, but if you have tried them then could you give me some insight? And i do not want to hear anything about 'oh you should be happy with how you are' and all of that thats not what im here looking for. Thank you.
Also i am not just looking for something to make them LOOK bigger i'm looking to actually make them a little larger.

    • ANSWER:
The pills don't work. All enlargement pills, creams, and rubs female or male are nothing more than snake oil. Unfortunatly the only medically proven way to get larger breast is to have breast augmentation. Which for a good surgen runs about 00 and is a invasive procedure.

If you don't have the money for implants your only choices are to learn to love your body the way it is or use a bra insert or padded bra.

  16. QUESTION:
Are You A Non-Celebrity With Breast Implants?
Okay, this topic is a little bit of a stretch here. The reason being is, I don't think our Filipinas are really the type to get breast implants. I hope I don't sound arrogant but I think we are all accepting of the genetic hand that we have been given and don't feel the urgency to make drastic changes. I do believe though that 30%, or maybe even considerably more, of our local celebrities have had the boobs done. I think they do it for that competitive edge that's needed in this industry to get more work, to be more popular. And let's face the reality, we are a boob loving country. Just look at the bountiful dumb-asses that hijack our television that have no discernible talent, but they have tata's--and that's good enough. Anyway, back to my topic. I would like to fish here and find the non-celebrities who have had breast implants. I do hope I'm wrong in my theory that non-celebrities aren't getting it done. If you're out there, tell us your story. What finally got you to do it? From what size to what size? And oh, before and after photos can be forwarded to hanspajarillo@yahoo.com Kidding. Well, no I'm not.

  18. QUESTION:
Can you help me revise my thesis statement?
The different types of breast implants and the various indications their used for.

    • ANSWER:
As a graduate student, you need to write your thesis statement so it will get the reader's attention at the beginning of the paper. You might want to consider asking a few questions before rewriting the thesis statement. I will provide you with a web site that explains more how to determine the best way to use a thesis statement in your paper.

I write papers weekly in my graduate classes and it is something which takes a lot of practice. I have had difficulty with it however the few resources I have used are helpful. Something I also suggest is after your paper is graded, ask your teacher what they suggest you can do to improve your writing.

Best of luck with your paper!

  19. QUESTION:
    Question about Breast implants?
How much did it cost you all together for the whole procedure?
Can you still feel everything just like with your natural breasts?
Can you lay on your stomach with implants?
What happens to them as the years go by, will they need to be removed ever?
Can you still breast feed? What is the best type of implant? Is there any way you can make payments or do you have to pay everything up front? How many times did you have to see your doctor before they were complete? And most of all do you have any regrets?

    • ANSWER:
9,000 for entire procedure, I still have the same sensation. I sleep on my belly every night with no problems. I didn't the first several weeks though. The best type depends on what you are looking for. I wanted my to look and feel real, so I got the silicone. I saw the doctor 3 times before, and several time after. No regrets, best decision I ever made. The rest of your questions can be answered here:

They shouldn't break and you can still breast feed and they shouldn't have to be replaced unless you want them to. They have come a long way since years ago.

  20. QUESTION:
    Breast implants?
Is it ok for a chick to have breast implants or other types of augmentation such as reduction or lift?
What circumstances would make it ok? Single implant to match the remaining breast or two implants after single or double masectomy? Reduction for a very petite girl with F cups to prevent back problems? Implants to make tubular breasts rounder? A lift for a 40 year old with 5 kids that she breast fed so that she can feel sexy again?
Just to clarify, work outs don't TYPICALLY work on breast size. This is normally affected by gentics.
My breasts are double the normal size for a girl my age size weight etc, but that is due to the fact that I come from a long line of big breasted women (6th cousin to Dolly Friggin Parton!)

Bumrungrad in Thailand for breast implants...read please!?
I don't need lectures, I know the consequences, and I do love my body, but this is a personal choice, and I'm not asking for lectures about how I shouldn't get them. Anyways! I heard of this awesome place in Thailand that does breast implants *and other types of surgeries* for a total of 2800 in USD, which is obviously way cheaper than in the US. I need to schedule an appointment before I can get it done, can the appointment and the breast implants be scheduled within the same say... 2 week long trip to Thailand ? Because I wouldn't really want to fly to Thailand for just an appointment, and then have to fly back for the actual surgery. Does anyone know about this, or how it works? I couldn't find the appointment/surgery info. on their website. Also, how long should one generally wait until they can fly back home after surgery? Would a few days after be ok? I know it would be painful, but I'm tough. I've had my nose done, and I've heard from many people that a nose job is far more painful and there is more suffering than getting breast implants. THANKS :)

    • ANSWER:
      Hi Sarah,

My name is Scott from Bumrungrad. Very good feedback that you could not find the appointment page on our site:

      http://www.bumrungrad.com/overseas-medical-care/plan-your-visit/request-an-appointment.aspx

      To answer your specific questions:

      1. It is possible that you can make an appointment for a consultation, and have the procedure the following day - it is usually up to the schedule of the doctor. In general, you should expect 1 - 3 days.

      2. You should make all of your appointments before you come over to avoid delays.

      3. After the procedure, you should expect to wait on average 5 - 7 days before boarding an airplane. However, this does depend on your current size, and what size you are trying to achieve. When you send the details to the hospital (including your photographs), they should be able to tell you more. However, if you are going to be here for 14 days, this should be sufficient.

      4. An additional point: there is a lot of talk on the internet about medical tourism, and doing procedures then hitting the beach. Please do not do this. Sun and saltwater cause problems with procedures like these.

In addition to the appointment page, you can always contact the hospital on our "info@" email - the domain is bumrungrad.com. The appointments and info@ emails are all handled by the same people.

Breast implants linked to suicide risk? What is right about this article?
I saw this headline: "Breast implants linked to suicide risk" and this byline in the LA Times: "A report says that women who have had the increasingly popular surgery are three times more likely to kill themselves later."

Personally, I hate the idea of risking your life to have bigger breasts, or any type of elective surgery but I'm the practical sort and hate hospitals (I'm not referring to reconstructive breast surgery for breast cancer survivors).

-But something about this study didn't sound right. What is the percentage of women who killed themselves who had other types of cosmetic surgery, or is it just this type of cosmetic surgery?
-What are the rates of suicide among women who consider breast surgery, but decide not to have it done?
-This surgery was suppose to help women feel better about themselves...or is this just a scam to prey on women's fears?

    • ANSWER:
Evidently there is a lack of psychological screening prior to surgery - not just in the USA but in Australia too. I always assumed that pre-surgery counselling was mandated - surprise, surprise, it's NOT. Not all plastic surgeons are created equal - as a surgeon you can hang a shingle on your door with no training specific to this field (in Ontario, saw a news story 'bout this). Regulation of this highly profitable industry is lacking - and so it should come as no surprise that assessing patients' motives for surgery and expectations are not explored. According to the following Aussie article 'women who had breast reductions reported high rates of satisfaction ...People who had rhinoplasty, or nose-jobs, or facial work had more mixed results.' This problem is not limited to narcissistic, 'stuck-up women', as at least one poster here has erroneously implied. Body dysmorphic disorder is found in both genders, and I would hazard a guess that a helluvalot of male BODY BUILDERS are afflicted:

'One in 10 people who undergo elective plastic surgery may experience psychological problems afterwards, according to Melbourne researchers.

A review of 37 studies into cosmetic procedures and their outcomes for 3542 patients showed that young men, those with a history of depression and people with unrealistic expectations were at risk.

"People with a psychological condition called body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), characterised by an obsession with an imagined physical defect, were over-represented among cosmetic surgery patients, said Professor Castle.

"As psychiatrists we see people with body dysmorphic disorder who have commonly had surgery," he said. "They are referred to us because they have been so unhappy with the outcome or gone back and back to the surgeon or have even tried to do plastic surgery on themselves."

Up to 2 per cent of the population suffer from BDD, but surveys suggest that 7 to 15 per cent of cosmetic surgery patients have the condition...

"It is almost by definition that they'd be unhappy with the surgery because the surgery itself cannot deal with psychological problems,"...

    • ANSWER:
I'd recommend you find a plastic surgeon to sit down and talk with. That's the only way you're going to get a real estimate, as well as finding out about the risks involved with both silicone and saline implants. Many surgeons will not operate on people under a certain age if they think you're still growing.

Is this real or was he making it up?

    • ANSWER:
I have breast implants and I have NEVER heard of this. Just to let you know saline is NOT suppose to go inside of you. You should really talk to someone else. That sounds strange

  30. QUESTION:
    Breast Implants?
Hi everybody, I was just wondering what your thoughts were on getting breast implants. I am really thinking about getting the breast augmentation procedure done myself, because I am 5'6.5" and currently a 34 A and I am very self conscious about my breasts. My small breast size really makes me self conscious when I go out into public, and I really hate my small chest. I am so tired of wearing padded bras to every event that I go to as well. Also, as a side note, all the women in my family have small busts, so I know I won't be getting any bigger.

A few main questions that I had were:

    1. Guys do you totally rule out dating a woman with breast implants?
    2. What would be a proportional breast size to my height?
    3. To Women who had the breast augmentation procedure done:
Are you happy with your results?
    4. What type of implants do you believe to be the best type (ex: saline, silicon, etc)?

All help will be greatly appreciated!

    • ANSWER:
There will always be guys that say "ew implants feel awful!" but really, some women have such fantastic results that a guy wouldn't ever know if you didn't tell them. But again, do this for you, not them.
When you go on plastic surgeon consults, they will be able to advise you on what size you should go. But don't let them pressure you into a size you're not comfortable with.
I had breast implants put in b/c I had severe asymmetry(C cup on one side A on the other!). I am VERY happy with my results. I researched soooo much leading up to my first consult. I knew exactly what I needed to ask. I got lucky and felt confident with my first surgeon and ended up with great results. Make sure you chose a surgeon that is board certified in Plastic Surgery. Most people will recommend that you go on a few consults to make sure of who you're choosing.
I have heard many great things about silicone. Silicone has obviously gotten a bad rep over the years. Once you do the research, you will see they're not as horrible as many make them out to be. Unfortunately for me, they weren't available when I got my implants. I do plan on getting them next time though! Silicone is much softer than saline. Since you are starting out with very little breast tissue, you probably want to go with silicone. Also I strongly suggest you find a surgeon that puts them under the muscle. If an implant is placed above the muscle, your skin often times can't adequately support the weight, and you will have severe sagging. There are different shapes of implants too. Your surgeon will also be able to advise you on what kind you should go with.

  31. QUESTION:
Breast implants - painful ordeal or not?
My daughter asked my opinion about breast implants. I heard that this is a very painful ordeal - afterwards.

I am hoping that someone in here could give us some input. Is one type of implant better than the other.

    Thanks

    • ANSWER:
I have had sprained ankles that hurt worse. It really wasn't bad at all, but it depends on the girl.
If she is under 22 she has to get saline, but if she's of age, gummy bear silicone is the best.

  32. QUESTION:
Are there any breast implants that dont have to be replaced every decade?
I know the price (£4,000) and I know where I want to go to (Transform or Mya not sure just yet) bu as Im getting them when Im between 19-21 but was wonderng whether there were any more types of implants that ont run out (if it were) and also the feel more natrual x Thankyou x p.s after/during pregnancy, childbirth will they be ok etc .... (not planning any, any time soon just curious) xx

    • ANSWER:
4000 quid for a couple of fake boobs - imho you're off your rocker!!!
Any surgery has its dangers, implant surgery no less so. And then post surgery - just think of all the things that can go wrong (see all the other posts on this subject).

If you have a partner who is pushing you into this, then push him out and get one that appreciates you for what you are.

If you are your own motivation, remember, the guys aren't going to love you for your boobs ( in the end ), it is your personality that will win the game.
And personality does not reside in a lump of silicone implant.

  33. QUESTION:
What's the logic behind a woman wanting breast implants to enlarge them?
Do men prefer this type of woman? Do big-breasted women look better than small-breasted women. I prefer small as they make a woman......a woman!

    • ANSWER:
I don't think there's any logic to it at all. It's not because they're slutty. I would say it's because they are either vain, or have incredibly low self esteem and think bigger boobs will fix it. There are some women that have uneven breasts, and implants can even those out. And, I'm sure, there are some older women that just want everything up where it was 20 years before.

  34. QUESTION:
For women with breast implants...Do you regret it, how is it really?
I am 18 and very concerned about my breast size I am a small B cup, I try to feel good about my size because I am not looking for really big breasts, I have a nice butt, I'm curvy, etc. So obviously if I have so much on my lower half there has to be something missing elsewhere, and this is on my breast size...I am still not sure about the operation, because I see certain ladies with implants and I don't like them, I haven't felt them, but they look hard (I think this depends on the type of implant though), I wouldn't want my breasts to look obviously fake, but I see that this has always affected my self-esteem.

If you've had the surgery, how was it...Was it painful (even though I wouldn't mind the pain if I decide to get them done), but how is it now? Do you feel like your breasts look or feel hard, I don't really know what else to ask, but some opinions or words of experience or even those who have something to say about implants may help a lot!

    • ANSWER:
It was painful for a week, but afterwards it was not an issue. I love my results and would highly recommend it. I went from a 32B to a 32D and love the results. Before I felt like a little girl and was a little bit bottom heavy.

Can a person with breast implants get a laparoscope gallbladder removal?
Is there anyone who has breast implants and got a laparoscope gallbladder removal? I just wanted to know if they can still get that type surgery without any problems. I know that there are two types of gallbladder removals and heard that the laparoscope is a much better surgery but not everyone qualifies to get it. If there is anyone in the medical field or knows or is someone who has had it I would appreciate it to know. Thanks

    • ANSWER:
Yes you can, but of course you need to tell the doctor about them. The incision for the laproscopic surgery isn't made near the breast.

  37. QUESTION:
Attention women who've had breast implants.?
Hi, I was wanting to get breast implants, but I have heard many bad things (but good things also). I have done some research and can't make up my mind about some things. Can anyone tell me what is the best type of implants? What is the best way to have them implanted (under breast, armpit, etc...) Also, how much does it REALLY hurt? I am 5'4" 115lbs and I am currently a 34B. I want implants that WILL definitly be noticable but at the same time "natural" looking (not totally noticable I got implants). Does anyone have any suggestions? I am a person who tends to look on the "bad/negative" side of things... What are the major, most common risks that could come of this type of surgery? Also, does anyone know of any really, really good doctors for this type of surgery in Texas (maybe in the ausin, san antonio area)? I appreciate everyones comments! Thanx!!!

    • ANSWER:
There is a way to get bigger breasts without surgery, pills or creams.

  39. QUESTION:
What type of breast cancer treatment is best after surgery?
My grandmother is 80 years of age and was diagnosed with breast cancer about a month ago. she had surgery in which they removed the cancer from her breast. she is trying to decide whether the treatment of radiation by means of having an implant in her breast that releases radiation, or not even receiving the treatment of radiation at all. any ideas? (her health condition is as fallows- had a stroke 2 months ago, still working on walking w/o a walker, and she has trouble standing for certain periods of time. she has recovered well from the stroke, but is still in a bad condition.

    • ANSWER:
Radiation was the toughest of treatments for my wife and she at the time of treatment was 52 years old. Radiation kills the tumor at the site where cancer was discovered, it is sort of insurance that it will destroy whatever cells would be left at the site.

Chemotherapy destroys the cells that might have escaped to other parts of the body, surgery removes the tumor itself and radiation is applied to the site to destroy remaining cells.

Treatment is usually over a specific amount of time that is on a daily basis, and it was very painful for us. Not everyone responds to radiation the same way. I have heard from others that it was a walk in the park. For us it was hell.

It could be physically too much for her, the only person to know for sure is her radiation oncologist and regular doctor. A friend of mine had breast cancer at 65 years old and did not have it again for ten years. At 75 years old she decided to not have treatment because she did not want to suffer through it all again.

Each person needs to evaluate if the costs are worth the price of the goods received. I know what radiation did to my wife but she is considerably younger than your grandma. The treatment for her could be the straw that breaks her back. The doctor's need to give an evaluation to decide if it is something she can handle.

  40. QUESTION:
    Breast Implants Question...?
Okay so im a short woman. Around 4'11. Im like a 36 A or B. I want breast implants but i dont want them to be overpowering or bigger than my body. What is the best type of implants? What size would you reccomend? How long does it take to recover? Thanx :)

    • ANSWER:
Like the other poster I agree a full B, but be aware, most everyone wishes they would of went bigger. but still since your petite, you shouldn't go to large. there are round and tear drop shaped implants. When I got mine I had to go 2 weeks without using my arms, I could only brush teeth and hair. the first day hurt alot, then everyday after that you feel 100% better than you did the day before.
The dr. will help alot with your size and shape decisions. Best of luck to you.

  41. QUESTION:
    considering breast implants?
ok, the deal is that im 18 and im as flat as a board. maybe even flatter. if there was a negative cup size bra, i'd be the first to wear it. training bras are too big for me. i mean im as flat as a 5 year old... =( i dont seem to be making any progress either. and it is very uncomfortable for me. i heared/read a lot about the breast enhansment pills to be bogus. so option B is breast implants...

now if you want to say live with what you got, love your body, etc. please dont waste your time. if you were me u'd be considering this too.

if you had breast implants please tell me about the experience, and the recovery. i know there are different type of implants you can get aswell, which ones are better in your opinion? any insight on this proceedure is welcome. thanks a lot.
yes, i did take ballet since i was 4, for 9 years. and i didnt grow up in the US so i was running around outside all the time. that could be it. but i should be as flat chested as i am. and my family is normal sized. not big, not small, average. i look exactly like my grandma and am named after her too. sh has like a D cup.

    • ANSWER:
I wasn't flat chested, but I was disproportionately small(5'7", 125lbs, 34A) and always wanted them bigger. When I was a teenager, I contemplated trying the hormone pills to make your boobs bigger but my animal-loving mom banned me from buying them LOL. She read some article claiming that the pill manufacturers were brutal to animals to obtain the estrogens for those pills(not sure if true or not).

It's probably a good thing I didn't waste my money on those pills, because I found out later that they do not work on everybody. Basically if you've experienced bigger boobs as a result of birth control pills or pregnancy, then these breast growth pills will probably work for you...I was not one of those lucky people, as later experiences with b.c. and pregnancy showed me. My ex's ex-wife took the herbal pills and supposedly she went up a cup size, but he said that she had to take the pills every day because the size change was not permanent.

I opted to get implants when I was 22 yrs old...it was a college graduation present to myself LOL. Nobody helped me when I went through some financial hardships in college, and it seemed that nobody even gave a hoot if I finished college or not...so I spent the first year out of college struggling on a min wage income on my own, and once I obtained a better job and paid off a lot of debt, I decided to treat myself! I went the surgery route because it was guaranteed to work(unlike the pills, which have varying results on various people) and safer(i.e., the surgeons are board certified, whereas some hormone pills are not FDA approved + taking any hormone over a period of time raises health risks). In 2005 I paid 00 for the operation.

I opted for the smooth round saline implants. The silicone gel ones were not available at the time, and they're more expensive anyway. I got each implant inserted through the crease under each breast. I went to a doctor that focuses on natural-looking work, so that the implants wouldn't look superfake or pornstar-like. The implants I got took me from a 34A to a 34 full C/32 D.

One month prior to the surgery, I had to get blood tests at a hospital to make sure that I wasn't pregnant, HIV+, or allergic to anesthesia. (They didn't want risk of death or complications) I presented to the hospital on the morning of the surgery and after my surgeon explained a few things and took "before" pics, they injected a huge anesthesia needle and I don't remember anything more than a minute after that. I woke up an hour after the surgery was completed. They let me sleep for an hour longer so that I wouldn't wake up feeling nauseous and ill. I felt very tired and my chest was stiff and achy. All I wanted to do was get home and go to sleep!

The first few days were a time of rest. When you first get implants, you are doped up on tons of pain meds(Vicodin + Valium mostly) and it hurts to move your arms or shoulders. You cannot use your arms for things like sitting up, eating, etc. My at-time live-in boyfriend helped me a lot by playing nurse for the next few days, feeding me soup through a straw(lol!) and helping me shower. My physical recovery was rather quick though(I'm tough lol). I was walking around and feeding myself within 3 or 4 days. I purposely forced myself to stay inside my apartment for the first 5 days only because the doctor instructed me to do this. The doctor also instructed "no sex" for the first week, which my boyfriend enforced for my own good, although I didn't like the "no sex" part! LOL. I was on the pain meds for only the first 5 days, and I had a lot left over that I didn't need. Five days after surgery, I went shopping. A week after that, I was bowling and swimming in the ocean. My recovery was pretty quick though, and I don't expect everyone getting implants to be bowling and stuff the way I was LOL.

So I already told you about the physical recovery, now I will tell you about how my boobs "evolved" during this time. For the first month, they were very swollen, high up on my chest, and the skin was stretched so tight that it looked kinda shiny. Fake boobs look really weird and misshapen at first, but don't worry...it takes a few months for them to soften up and conform to your natural breasts. For the first few months, my boobs were rock-hard before starting to feel like real boobs again. Within a month, the swelling went down and they looked a little better, but they didn't look close to "normal" until ~3 months post surgery. Overall it took almost a whole year for my implants to fully drop into place and for my boobs to look somewhat "real." Most peoples' boobs drop into place a lot quicker than mine. The reason mine took so long was because:
      1) Pre-surgery, I had a tight bony shoulder/chest area and barely any breast tissue.
      2) Although my surgeon's technique results in natural looking implants in the long run, it takes longer for them to initially soften up and drop into place.

I am very happy with my boob job. They've helped to drastically increase my tips at bartending and cocktail waitressing jobs. They've also helped me to look closer to my age(I look very young), which has helped prospective employers to take me more seriously and not just mistake me for being a high school kid. I've attracted more guys now than ever before the surgery. I love how much better halter tops and dresses look on me. Sometimes certain tops are too small on me, but at least they aren't too baggy in the chest area like they were before! LOL. I think my implants look great and I do not regret them.

I think the results of your boob job have a lot to do with the quality of surgeon that you choose. A good surgeon will recommend implants that are most suitable for your figure and body type. E.g., my surgeon didn't let me go too big because he knew that I didn't have enough chest tissue to accomodate huge implants right away. Good luck with whatever you choose, and if you choose the surgery, good luck with that!

  42. QUESTION:
    Advice on getting breast implants?
I was a competitive gymnasts for 6 years up until the age of 14. I had to stop due because I was too tall 5'8 and broke about everything. I am now an avid runner and strength train (not bodybuilder stuff just light).I was also diagnosed with a mild immune deficiency. I am 22 years old.
I have been considering getting breast implants (only go up to a size B) for years because i am so incredibly small, and with my workout regime i know i will never naturally get bigger, plus all the women in my family are naturally small. I have consulted a plastic surgeon before who said that because i literally have no fat on my chest area that getting breast implants may cause "rippling". Does anyone have any suggestions i could take to feel more like a woman? Perhaps a certain type of implant that might work better over another?
    Thanx

    • ANSWER:
      Here's some advice:

      1. There are two breast implant options: Saline or Silicone. Silicone implants was banned in by the FDA before. They were banned because some women reported health problems after getting them. In 2006, the FDA announced that they were safe. It's your choice what type of implants you want.

      2. Implants do not last forever. All implants will become ruined damaged, and disfigured over time. Most women will need to replace implants after 3 or 4 years.

What happens if implants burst? Saline ones will gush out salt water. The silicone ones will gush out thick silicone gel.

      3. Implants come in different sizes. They are measured by cc. (for example, implants can range from 200 cc to 400 cc). It is best to talk to your surgeon so he/she will know what type suits you best.

Do not always think that the bigger size is better. In some cases, the big implants can make your chest look fake. You do not want people to immediately think that your breasts are fake. Your surgeon will help you select a size that fits your weight and height.

      4. There are different ways that breast implants can be inserted:

*nipple - surgeon cuts your nipple open and insert the implant
*under the breast- surgeon cuts under your breasts to insert implant; there are less revealing scars
*belly button- surgeon cuts your belly button and insert implant through a tunnel; this is the most risky type of insertion
*under the armpit- surgeon cuts open your armpit and insert the implant

  44. QUESTION:
    Should I get breast implants?
I'm turning 18 in this upcoming July. I know majority of you are going to say I'm too young so if you are please don't even bother responding to this. Basically I would really love to get implants. Not for anyone, for myself. I've basically been around the same cup size for awhile. When I gain weight I never really gain it in my boobs. But if I do lose weight i always lose it in my boobs which I heard is normal. Anyway I'm about a C right now and I'm interested in becoming a double D. Which I'm hoping isn't too large. I'm trying to research a lot about this because I know it's a huge decision but it's so hard to find information online plus my mom not being supportive of it doesn't help. I would also like advice on how to talk to my parents about this situation. I've mentioned it to my mom but she refuses to even listen. She claims my boobs are big enough and are fine but that bothers me since it's my body and what I think should be my choice. I haven't even mentioned it to my dad which is know is going to be so hard. Is there anything specific I should say? I also would just like to see a doctor to have their opinion. It's driving me crazy that my parents will listen to my sister, who is turning 20 this July, when she says she would like a breast lift and a little implant since she lost a ton of weight so her boobs have now sagged. My parents are talking about getting her that for this Christmas. It bothers me because I kind of always wanted this. I've always wanted to get my boobs done but never have been so serious until now. I know this is super long and I thank you for reading this. If you have any advice as to what I should say to my parents, what type of implants or size I should get, and anything else you would like to add except the fact that I'm so young that'd be very helpful. Thanks a lot :)

  46. QUESTION:
What size breast implants would suit me?
I'm 5 foot 6, and 120 pounds. Currently my breast size is a 36 A. Lately I have been really considering a breast augmentation to be fuller, and have more cleavage. What breast size would be more ideal for my body type? I was thinking of a 36 DD, but I know I'll probably have back problems if I go too big. Is 36 DD too ambitious? Thanks in advance!

    • ANSWER:
At 5'6 and 120 lbs., a 36 DD would make you look FABULOUS. As for back problems, I don't know. Some women complain about that, but most don't. I'd talk to a doctor regarding that.

  47. QUESTION:
Is This Type of Breast Enhancement Illegal?
I might want to do breast enhancement in the future but implants are not an option. I hear about some people injecting fat (like maybe from the thigh or tummy area) in their breasts to enhance them. Is that illegal in the states? Is it rare and what are the side effects?

well generally it's not done because the cellulite from your thighs, and tummy, ripple in the breast, if not smoothed over properly.

  48. QUESTION:
What's better, breast implants or buttocks implants/brazilian butt lift?
To start off, no this is not for me I don't want to get any type of implants i love my body and it's very proportionate. i just want to know because I'm doing a survey which involves body image called "Your body/you and others.

Any other operations that you would like and how would feel about them and why would be appreciated if you write them down-thankyou

I would like to know if you're a girl and you had an option-which one would you get?

Guys, which one do you prefer on a female-bigger breasts or bigger buttocks.

    • ANSWER:
i'm a girl, and i personally would never get any operation done to make anything bigger on my body, i'm content with my body the way it is.
however i think the reason why women do get breast implants is either because they are not happy with their body which can cause low self esteem and or because the fact that some men can be crazy about breast and think the bigger the better.
therefore i think if given the option to choose between both operations i would go for the buttock implants just because it is not as common and i doubt that if someone did get this operation done, it would not be noticeable. and people wouldn't go around saying "o yeah that's fake, she got a butt job." like people say about women who get breast implants.

  49. QUESTION:

    • ANSWER:

  50. QUESTION:
which type of breast augmentation is the best?
Hi im just wondering which type of breast augmentation is the best? i heard there's a method of injecting fat tissue into your breast to replace the traditional silicon implants, does anybody know if that's as good as the implants ??

saline salt water gel or silicon gel implants, which one is better ?? does those look fake ( like so round and firm unlike normal breasts)

i prefer the fat injection one cuz i don't want anything strange in my body, but if that's not an option, i would consider go for the traditional style..

had anyone had that before?? tell me the detail plzzzz

    • ANSWER:
Silicone Cohesive Gel Implants (Gummy Bear Implants). They do not leak if ruptured, unlike Saline or regular Silicone Gel Implants.

Fat injections would be perfect, but the problem is that fat can be unpredictable and doesn't always last. It is also very expensive to have fat grafting to the breasts.

It would be best to consult with a reputable cosmetic surgery specialising in breast augmentation procedures to discuss your options.
