  Be careful what you ask for on this one. I had my rhinoplasty done at the Army hospital several years ago and the surgeon who did it was an ear nose and throat doctor. He took out too much bone and my nose collapsed on one side and it had to be redone by a plastic surgeon on the outside. We only had to pay about .00 for the one day surgery in the Army hosp. Of course his mistake required another surgery to be done. I know that it could have happened that way regardless, but I felt that a plastic surgeon would have been more meticulous. They won't do it at all if it is for cosmetic purposes. Doctors are in short supply all over the Army. So unless you nose is severely obstructed, they probably won't do it. I have only a small "hump" on my nose and want no surgery except to smooth it out. Because what I want done is relatively basic, would that mean that the cost is less than average as well? The average, by the way, is about ,200 for rhinoplasty in the US--could I expect it to be less than that? Just trying to get a rough idea of the price range without having to do a consultation.

A long while back (I don't remember when) I suffered a pretty rough blow to my nose. It didn't break per se, but after it healed, the center piece of cartilage seems to have shifted. My left nostril is now about 50% larger than it had been and my right is about half the size it used to be.

Is that worth going to get fixed? I can't really breathe out of the right nostril anymore either.

  The septum is a relatively quick procedure, but they DO NOT cut it out. This problem was probably caused by a minor break during that injury. When you have an off center septum (deviated septum) they do a procedure called a turbinectomy where they fix that size difference. After I had my deviated septum fixed I was amazed at how much better I could breathe.It may also be something your insurance may cover part of it since it is not simply for cosmetic purposes. Since my procedure also had some cosmetic details as well, the majority was on me to pay. As for the costs, it really depends on what doctor you go to, and if your insurance will cover it.

  You are going to need a rhinoplasty AND a septoplasty. A rhinoplasty just fixes the bump/shape. The septoplasty fixes the septum. The septoplasty will be covered by most insurances. Rhinoplasties are about ,000. Rinos are cosmetic and will not be covered, even if you have it done simultaneously but if you do get it done at the same time, you don't have to pay for the anesthetic because it will be under the septoplasty costs.
