Breast augmentation surgery, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure performed to increase or alter your breast size or shape by using breast implants. Breast augmentation will enhance your appearance and bolster your self-confidence, but it will not achieve perfection, which is an unrealistic expectation.
Breast augmentation is performed for a variety of reasons including:
- To enhance the body contours of a woman with smaller breasts
- To balance asymmetry in breast size
- To reconstruct breasts following surgery for breast cancer
Your Surgeon will Advise You
After your breast augmentation surgery you are likely to feel sore and tired for a few days, but you should be up and around in twenty-four to forty-eight hours. Your discomfort will be controlled by pain medication prescribed by your surgeon.
Following your breast augmentation procedure your surgeon will advise you when and how to resume your exercise regime based on your own personal procedure experience and body as recovery times will vary from woman to woman. Typically the average time needed before exercising can be resumed is from four to six weeks.
Be sure to follow your surgeon's advice about returning to normal exercise or workouts and wear a good support bra to minimize pulling on the incisions. There are also compression garments that can be worn that will help to support and shape your breasts.
General Rules to Follow for Exercising after Breast Augmentation Surgery
You should avoid heavy lifting or straining for a minimum of two weeks following your breast augmentation procedure. Normal activities may be resumed at any time if they cause no pain or discomfort. Walking within a few days of your surgery is allowed but do not participate in aerobic exercise for at least three weeks. Aerobic exercise will increase your blood pressure, which could cause bleeding and cause harm to your surgical result.
Once you are advised to resume your regular exercise program start slowly and allow your body to tell you what it can tolerate. It is important not to rush the healing process. One important rule to follow is not to sweat until the incisions are healed and sealed. Your body needs time to rest and heal naturally to ensure you get the best result from your procedure.

QUESTION:
how soon can i exercise after breast augmentation?
i'm having breast augmentation surgery this week and am a little nervous about recovery time, getting back to work and being able to exercise again. Anyone have any feedback?-
ANSWER:
If your surgery is above the breast muscle or right under the skin, recovery time is faster. Pain and swelling subsides in a shorter time. My PS advises patients to rest for one week before going back to work for all types of breast augmentation surgeries. If your implant placement is submuscular or below the muscle, it will be more painful and recovery will take longer as the breast muscles and tissue are cut and stretched while a pocket for the implant is being made. My PS advocates all precautionary measures. Better safe than sorry. Straining yourself may only result in complications or delay in recovery.
Going back to exercising will depend on each individual's recovery - around 2-3months but no heavy lifting. I know it's terrible! It's advisable to stop all pectoral exercises 3-4weeks before surgery to speed up healing and lessen recovery pain.
You have spent a lot of time and money for your breast implants, and you do not want to endanger the recovery or the look of your new breasts. It's just once in a lifetime!
Take care and good luck!

Exercise after breast augmentation (lrgr)?
I'm having a breast augmentation next month (yes I know I should feel happy with the way I am blah blah blah...I dont think I need em I just want them ok...so dont comment abt it). I'm very regular in the gym and love working on my legs alot, but not sure how long i hav to wait to get back to them post surgery. I'm naturally thin and have to maintain a regular weight routine & diet or I lose too much fast. So I know I have to wait abt 6 wks to workout, but i was wondering if at least squats and light weight leg presses would be okay. Let me know if you have same experience please.oh p.s.
Im having the surgery from the areolar area under the muscle if that makes a difference. thanks for any help.-
ANSWER:
Ask your plastic surgeon. It depends on a lot of factors that only he is aware of. Like the size of implants, your physical condition. How quickly you heal and so on.And if you want it go for it - it's no one else's business,

QUESTION:
Light exercise after a breast augmentation?
I just had breast augmentation surgery on Monday and am now wondering how soon I can start exercising. I'm not in a big hurry because I want to make sure I'm well enough first, and know it may be several weeks till I can lift weights again. However, I was wondering about light exercise such as walking on the treadmill or light leg work such as lunges & squats, without weights of course. I don't want to lose what I have worked so hard for, nice toned legs. Can anyone offer any advice or suggestions??? Thanx a bunch!-
ANSWER:
Consult your surgeon for guidelines.

QUESTION:
What is the typical recovery time after breast augmentation surgery? Time away from work, exercise, etc?
I am curious as to how much time I would be off from work or the gym if I had this done.-
ANSWER:
Your surgeon will take the stitches out in a week to 10 days, but your breasts may be swollen for the next three to five weeks. Your scars will be noticable for several months but will eventually begin to fade.Your surgeon will give you some instructions such as not to lift your arms, or not to push, pull, or carry heavy objects.Follow your surgeon's advice on when to begin exercises and normal activities. You should avoid direct physical contact since your breasts will probably be sensitive for two to three weeks.

QUESTION:
Exercising after breast augmentation?
I had breast augmentation surgery on March 3, 2010. My recovery was great...very quick. I am a pretty active person and like to work out at least 5 days a week. Three days after surgery I was already going for slow walks and rides on my stationary bike (very low intensity) just to get my blood flowing. It's been 6.5 weeks now, and sticking with these low-intensity workouts is driving me NUTS! I just want to go for a run...do something a little more challenging, you know? I know I can't be doing any push ups or chest workouts for at least 4 months, but does anyone know when I can start doing high-intensity cardio again? Any tips? Thanks in advance!-

What is it like to wake up from anesthesia after having a breast augmentation?
I'm having this done on wednesday and I am terrified of the extreme pain that will come with adding 500cc implants into my B sized breasts. I hear its like you cant breathe. Any suggestions on how to get through recovery would also be appreciated. Also how bad are the "displacement exercises" the day after. QUESTION:
Silicone breast implants under the muscle and normal exercise after 1.5 years?
I had a breast augmentation done 1.5 years ago. 325ccs each side silicone under the muscle. I was worried about the implants popping and/or getting hard if I did any chest exercises because I was just a rib cage before the surgery (my guy friends had bigger chests than me). My questions are:1) what kind of pressure/force would be needed to pop an implant?
2) How are some good ways to begin building chest muscle (I have very little left at this point)?
3) Any other general advice you can give. My surgeon's office is 2 hours away and my general dr doesn't want to deal with "cosmetic surgery" questions.

QUESTION:
Has anyone ever had heart palpitations after having a breast augmentation/lift?
I've noticed that ever since my breast augmentation surgery/breast lift surgery 3 years ago, that I have had much more noticeable heart palpitations...They usually come when I am at rest, not while exercising(and I am very active...run 3 miles/day) I can be watching TV or typing on the computer and I will feel a sudden pounding, like flip-flip, in my chest that will take my breath away, but just for a couple seconds and no chest pain or any other symptoms. My implants are under the muscle so I thought maybe that had something to do with them being pushed up against my chest...or making my heartbeat/occasional irregular beats more noticeable?-
ANSWER:
I doubt the implants did anything. my guess is the stress of surgery, or the anesthetic could be the issue. There have never been any signs linked to what you are having, and the material in implants.

QUESTION:
Anyone with abdominoplasty or breast augmentation?
I am looking for people who have had mini or full abdominoplasty and breast augmentation. I am not looking for a "quick fix" by any means but I have issues from having 3 children so close together that exercise just won't take care of (e.g. excess skin, stretch marks, etc.). I am not 100% sure I want it yet and am very nervous and skeptical of being put under. I have heard tons of horror stories about people not waking up or dying the next day because of botched surgery. I found a doctor who is the head of plastic surgery at a great hospital and who is not only board certified but belongs to two other elite boards as well. I also know someone that went to him personally and she says that he is great. I would just like to get some info on if it was worth it, how long it takes to recover, how badly you feel after the surgery, if you have any before and afters, if you were as scared going in as I am, etc. Right now I am just looking for some info to help me make an informed decision.-
ANSWER:
I had a breast augmentation about two years ago and lasered some stretch marks off.I am in love with my results. I am a healthy woman--don't smoke, perfect weight, and the doctor okay'd me to go through with it.
I had some bruising and swelling with my breasts and it took about three months for them to be the size I wanted (they grow in time so don't be alarmed if they appear smaller in the beginning) but after about two weeks I was perfectly fine. I couldn't lift anything heavy for six weeks, but after two I felt like I could have.
If you're self concious and want it done, go ahead! It can make a great difference in how you feel and if you're healthy you should heal just fine.
Make sure you go to a certified surgeon and have them go over with you the risks so that you are perfectly informed. Smart women make informed decisions, and if this is what you want and you think it's worth the risk and the money--do it.
Hope this helps!

Hey guys I know this is going to be personal preference but I was still hoping for just general feedback. I'm going in next week for breast augmentation. ANSWER:
Hi,Breast massage is one of the best ways to help create a more beautiful bustline by helping to shape, tone and promote growth of the breast and the area surrounding the breast. Not only can moderate breast massage help to make your bustline more attractive and sometimes even grow larger, but it is also an excellent way to keep in tune to your breast health by creating awareness of any fibrous areas of possible indications of breast cancer and some have even claimed moderate breast massage can help to prevent cancer.
Breast massage has been used in beauty parlors and massage parlors, especially in Asia, as a means of healthy lymphatic drainage, breast growth promotion, and as a post operative therapy for women who have undergone mastectomies, breast surgery, or other trauma to the breast area, since it helps break down scar tissues as well as stimulate healing and tissue regeneration.
There has been much speculation that the practice of wearing a bra 12-15 hours per day by most women restricts lymph flow and healthy riddance of toxins, and apart from not wearing a bra, which is not an option for many women in today's societies, breast massage is the best way to help the lymphatic system drain these pent up toxins and help to prevent them from building up and contributing to cancer or other ailments.
By massaging the breasts on a regular basis, many women is Asia have claimed it has enhanced the shape, size and overall attractiveness of their breast, while also giving them a sense of oneness with their femininity, and promoting relaxation and peace of mind, as other methods of body massage do.
Many who practice breast massage for increased breast fullness and beauty also have utilized special herbal serums or creams formulated to further stimulate the breasts into "expanding", firming and toning, creating an overall larger look and correcting sagging, droopiness and other traits deemed unattractive by other individuals.
Here are some guidelines for breast massage you may want to follow:
1.) Use a breast enhancing cream or lubricant - preferably a quality one with natural stimulating herbs and botanicals (see our reviews page for info on Benefil) - of your choice to help prevent friction and increase the enjoyment and relaxation of the massage for a more pleasurable and therapeutic experience. This can be an herbal mixture - there are some good ones out there that really do help to promote firmess and breast tone, while creating a larger and more rounded look.
2.) Light to moderate massaging using a gentle back and forth gentle “swishing” action is best. This can be in a counterclockwise circle around the breast to help promote maximum lymphatic drainage.
3.) To gain maximum benefit and therapeutic effects, breast massage should be practiced daily, as part of a routine - perhaps when fresh out of the shower, since the skin is still somewhat moist and the room may still be steamy, for a smoother massage which may be more easily lubricated since there will still be moisture in the air. If you prefer, even several times a day can be a great benefit. It depends on what fits into your schedule. A few minutes at a time should suffice.

QUESTION:
I have a RIPPLE in one of my BREAST IMPLANTS.Why did this happen and what is done to fix this?
I am a 22 year old female and I had breast augmentation surgery about 3 and a half years ago. I have had no problems and have been very happy with my surgery and end results. Prior to surgery I had naturally bigger breast 34 full B, smaller C and received 250cc implants.Recently I changed my diet and began exercising daily, causing me to loose about 10 pounds now weighing 105 pounds at 5'3''. However, along with the weight loss I have noticed that my right breast implant has what I think I could call a ripple, directly beneath the nipple. If you press it, you can actually feel it 'pop' in and back out with out pressure. I also have noticed that sometimes with a spots bra on and a thin t-shirt that after exercising and becoming cold, you can see a subtle arch shaped line where the ripple is (a little to the side of my actually nipple). And It does cause me some discomfort when I am cold and my nipple becomes hard. However all the time it makes me have an uncomfortable feeling as I know this is not normal.
I know I need to make an appointment with my plastic surgeon and am going to this week but with the holidays coming up, I know that I most likely won't be able to get in for about another week. My question is, what is this? why did this happen and do you think I will have to have correction surgery? and if so, do you think the doctor would charge full price or have a correction price?

QUESTION:
Where do you draw the line on body modifications?
What kind of body modifications are ethically acceptable, and which are not? If having surgery performed on a child born with a cleft palate is acceptable to improve his appearance, is it also acceptable to have a circumcision performed for purely aesthetic (not religious) reasons? Is it ok to have a nose job if your nose has been broken and it's impairing your ability to breathe? How about a nose job for a 16 year old who thinks her nose is too big? And what about liposuction? Is liposuction an intelligent option for the severely overweight? How about for someone who exercises and watches their diet but can't get rid of those love handles or thunder thighs? Is it going too far to have a breast lift after carrying and breastfeeding three children? Is it going too far to have a breast augmentation to look hotter? How about getting DDD's to make money as a stripper? Are botox injections advisable for an actress? How about for a soccer Mom?

QUESTION:
First time plastic surgery: breast and possible lipo?
I just turned 24 and after graduating college, I decided I need to take more control of my life and have lost over more than 130 lbs so far. I am aiming for losing 150, but I feel that most of the weight is extra skin. I am nervous about plastic surgery but I do not think that my exercise routine will take care the extra skin. Also, since I lost soo much weight I am considering breast augmentation to recover my breast size that I lost. Any advice on how to get started with research?-
ANSWER:
Congratulations on taking control of your life!It sounds like you would want to have the excess skin removed, and a breast lift, but maybe not implants... I'm thinking lipo isn't what you need either, but a qualified plastic surgeon could probably help steer you in the right direction.
So, before you do too much research (in the wrong direction), you might set up a consult with a plastic surgeon who specializes in this type of work. Meet with him in his office and have him show you some before and after pics of his patients - along with referrals. Check with the board to see that he's certified and that there are no complaints against him.

ANSWER:
You can develop your pectoral muscles, this will help a little. I've added a link for you.I do suggest however that you get yourself fitted out with a really good bra. Go somewhere where a sales assistant has the time to measure you up and talk to you about what you want. I like, Marie-Jo, Aubade, Chantal Thomass...
Marie-jo do the workable yet elegant forms
Aubade, have the ladylike lace and soft finish of quality french underwear.
Chantal Thomass is the queel of ruffles and thrills. Frilly french nickers to round out the saggy bum, the over the top bras that's sooo sexy he won't take it off to make love to you.Good lingerie can be expensive but believe me, you will see and feel the difference. Stick to underwired forms and don't hesitate to show a little cleavage, the deep shadows of the falling breast attract attention... play it to your advantage.
Most of all, learn to love your new body. Pregnancy will boost your bra size and your body will change again. You need to develop a flair for dressing to make the new you work.
Good luck honey!

QUESTION:
When did large breast implants began as a popular trend?
Reviewing previous fashion aspects of dress styles preceding the adventurous years of the flappers era [circa 1920] and several years after, up to the counter cultures of 1960s. While breast implants have been in exercise primarily as an experimenting stage as early as 1895, applications for primary augmentation [or enlarging for cosmetic reasons] has never been documented in early fashion designs. Silicone implants were invented in 1961 but followed several years of criticism as well as the mechanics of its safety vulnerabilities. It was previously known that pin-ups originated from magazines and other media articles have shifted from legs to breasts between 40s to late 50s, most of the visual illustrations were emphasized primarily on naturals rather than obstructively large sizes. It is largely believed that the fashion design of the brassiere as it emerged from utilitarian styles to other, more appealing forms. Whether the desire to have larger breasts to accommodate the features of brassieres is not currently known, but I speculate recent influences by the adult entertainment industry may have contributed to the desire for large breasts. As of yet I have been unable to allocate a definitive date or perhaps an era in which this phenomenon first appeared, any assistance on this matter would be much appreciated.
On the personal note, I often wonder of the latent hazards of having unusually large mammary glands, especially if the average body constraints are not proportioned to handle the resulting muscular stress...and perhaps probable spinal injuries of having an offset ctg over a sustained period of time. Upon research I became aware that current popular media in the adult entertainment industry often places emphasis on breasts and it has been one of many frequently searched queues. Upon finding conflicting interest from explicit media created before 1980 lead me to suggest that the cultural trend for this style may have originated only in the last 100 years or so.

ANSWER:
We first heard about it here about 1972 I believe. Some has been Hollywood lady had gotten it. The boys' reaction was "those Americans are crazy". Of course, already then there were many jokes about american old girls having face lifts and so on.I think though that during the last ten years or so, it is gradually being considered less and less cool again. At least over here.
It really also is pretty sick. I mean my wife would have been number one on Dr. Plastic's death list with her quite-a-bit-smaller-than-A breasts. That would have been a tragedy.

QUESTION:
Breast Augmentation questions for those who had under the muscle implant?
After you had the surgery how long did it take to recover, like how long did u wait to have sex again,go partying, exercise, swim, etc do anything besides lay in a bed drugged up on pain killers. What were you able to do and not do?-
ANSWER:
It took me about 6 weeks to fully recover. The first week is so painful and you can't lift your arms above your head so make sure you have someone who is there to help you. After that it much easier but you really shouldn't do any sort of heavy lifting for the full 6 weeks. As with any sort of elective surgery make sure you know all of the risks and research your doctor. Also be aware that there is a chance that you might have to have a second surgery somewhere down the line. After having my implants for 5 years one of mine ruptured and totally went flat and I had to have them replaced. I do love them though!! Good luck!!
