  A lot of posters here have mentioned society and Hollywood's obsession with youth, which I definately agree is a big part of the issue. But I think it's only part of the issue.
  
  Lots of the surgeries people get have nothing to do with age. Take rhinoplasty (a nose job) for example. That has nothing to do with aging but rather, is symptiomatic of an unhealthy, ultra-perfectionistic beauty standard. If get your job based primarily on your physical appearance, as is usually the case with celebrities, you are in a place that is very vulnerable to becoming obsessed with every so-called imperfection. You are locked in a competition to be the best (i.e., the best looking) and your perception becomes warped and twisted. You become willing to undergo almost any surgical procedure, as long as it is "guaranteed" to make you more "beautiful." And as always, the "everybody is doing it" mentality plays a role.

a former friend who used to copy me a lot is now famous back home, she made it in showbusiness, she looks amazing (done surgeries and all that) ever since she was really an attention wh*re anyway but she has no love life. she was married to a rich old man and left him after she got what she wanted.

All this is fine but her standards in men is really high. She wants someone attractive, confident and professional.
We feel that because she is getting so much better, she will never be able to find a right match for herself.

i can see from these pics that tyra's breasts look fake b/c they are too perfect and have all the telltale signs of breast implants (i.e. aversion to the effects of gravity, extreme perkiness, crazy chest growth spurt as an adult)
but she "proved" her breasts were real on her talk show ( a doctor came on and said her breasts were real and gave her a televised sonogram). then she said, "i got fake hair and fake eyelashes y'all" even though it appears she has also had rhinoplasty and didn't admit to that.

I really don't understand why celebrities have to lie to their public and deny having 'any work done'.

Since plastic surgery first came about it's been very taboo. Now it's becoming a lot more common and more accepted.

I'd thought about doing a dissertation on attitudes towards cosmetic surgery, but it fell through, so now I'm just curious. What's your opinion on people having plastic surgery for cosmetic reasons?
If you're unsure, or consider it bad, would you think it worse to get an implant or botox in the face or body (e.g. breast implants, lip augmentation, etc.) as opposed to getting something fixed such as a badly shaped nose, liposution, etc., but nothing unnatural implanted? If so, why? Also, do you consider it more acceptable for people such as celebrities to have cosmetic surgery since their appearance is a large factor in their jobs?

  i think as long as a person is doing it for themselves and not to please other people then why not? to be honest it's not really different from sunbeds and acrylic nails you're still paying to have your physical appearance changed to look better, plastic surgery is just a bit more permanent. there are some people who don't feel as feminine with smaller breast or people who have dieted and have found their perfect weight but can't seem to tone their body up properly. everyone on here can't honestly say they wouldn't change something about their appearance, doesn't mean your insecure it's just realising you have a big nose or small lips, some people are just willing to change it. you shouldn't judge them.
