Breast Reduction Surgery

Gynecomastia is a disease where there is an abnormal growth of breast in men. There are many reasons behind this deformity like hereditary factor, hormonal imbalance, or certain side effects of chronic diseases.

The most traditional way to reduce enlarged breast is cosmetic surgery. This type of surgery is termed as mammoplasty. This stream of surgery is categorized as cosmetic surgery and it rectifies the formation of breast and helps in flattening and modification of the chest shape in the perspective of a masculine figure.

The cost of male breast reduction depends on the nature and intensity of the surgery process.

Surgery details

The surgery involves two processes like liposuction and excision. Depending on the severity of the attack of Gynecomastia, the surgeon selects the mode of operation that involves either liposuction or excision together or liposuction separately.

Liposuction - This method is applied when excess fatty tissue accumulation forms the overgrowth of breasts. In this process small insertions are made, then a thin hollow tube, Cannula, is inserted through these openings.

Then cannula is rotated in a very methodical process to loose the fat accumulated in that region. Then loose fat is removed by the process of suction and the apparatus used here is termed as suction vaccuum.

Excision. It is process where glandular gland and adipose tissues are formed; the overgrowth of breast needs to be treated in an intricate way.

The process of excision helps to remove the fat accumulated here and to stop the formation of gland and tissue further to form the breast. Incision patterns depend specifically on the requirement of the disease that means severity of attack.

Post-surgical care for patients

Post-surgical care is important for cost effectiveness of the surgery. The cost of male breast reduction surgery includes daily care of the wound, proper administration of medicine for quick recovery, an eagle eye on the general health issues and reporting to the doctor regularly.

Risks of breast reduction surgery

The risks involved in this surgery are like in the case of any other surgery. These are chances of local infections, slight pigmentation of skin, swelling of incision lines, sensitivity in the place of wound, looseness of skin, and feeling of pain.

If the after effects are include in the cost of male breast reduction module then it becomes more costly and a more painful process than herbal therapy Gynexin.

Cost of male breast reduction

Cost of male breast reduction depends on the following factors.

1. Surgeons fee ( 00 - 00)
2. Hospital charge (0- 50)
3. Anesthesia charge (0-0)
4. Prescription for medication
5. Post-surgical garments
6. Medical tests

The doctors fee varies with the expertise and on the place of operation. But whatever is the cost of male breast reduction surgery for better safety the doctor should a good one having enough surgery exposure.

When is the first time you see your breast after the surgery?
How long were you in pain for after the surgery?
When did you start feeling yourself again?
When did you start wearing a bra?
When did you feel like you had recovered completely?

    • ANSWER:
Abundance can be a great thing…sometimes. And other times there is such thing as too much of something. Having a large breast size can often lead to a lot of pain and discomfort in a women’s life – not to mention frustration when trying to find clothes that fit right. 2. QUESTION:
How long after breast reduction surgery will I know my final bra size?
I had breast reduction surgery a month ago and just went shopping for a couple of new bras. I was a 44F and was hoping to go down to a small D/large C ideally. I ended up buying a 40DD which is still so much larger than I wanted. I guess I just wanted to know from those who have had the surgery how long it took for their swelling to go down and when their breasts finally "settled" into their final size/shape. Thank you.

    • ANSWER:
previous to surgery i was a 32F. i asked to be a C cup and my surgeon promised me a C cup. at my final post op appointment at 9 months, I was still measuring a D cup. i was upset, but still happy with the results. then, 2 months ago i went to get measured again (i lost 7 lbs from exercising) and I was measured by victoria's secret as a C cup. 2 dreams were answered. to buy from victoria's secret and be a C cup.
i would say, it will take at least 8 months for all the swelling to go down.

  3. QUESTION:
How long does numbness last after breast reduction surgery?
I had a breast reduction a little over 2 months ago. I have feeling in my nipples and upper breast, however, the lower and sides of my breasts are still numb or have little sensation. My doctor says this is normal and that my breasts will continue to go through changes over the next 10 months or so, and feeling should return. About how long will it take for feeling to return to these parts of my breasts? Any input from doctors or anyone that has had this surgery before is appreciated! Thank you!

    • ANSWER:
      about 6 months.

  4. QUESTION:
Just got breast reduction surgery, when can I start being physical?
Just got breast reduction surgery, I still have the anesthesia in my blood and can't move my arms. Doc said to rest 6 weeks. But im going crazy here. I need to be active and move. What can I do in the meantime?

    • ANSWER:
Congrats! Breast reduction surgery gives great results. However you need to get back to normal activities gradually. Mobilize after 2 weeks with normal activities and gradually increase the activities to light exercise at 4 weeks. After 6 weeks you should be able to do most of physical activities if everything has gone well. Do consult your doc as to what you can do and what you cant for individual cases vary. But you should be able to do everything you wish to do now.

  5. QUESTION:
How long is recovery for breast reduction surgery?
I'm in need of a breast reduction surgery... I'm a 32F. I feel that my breast size actually hinders my physical capabilities (and being in the military, I need to be quite physically fit). Not to mention it's near impossible to actually find a good bra.

But, because I am in the army, the recovery time may prevent me from getting the surgery.

So I was curious: How long is recovery for breast reduction surgery?

    • ANSWER:
      Hello Crissy,

Everyone is different and will heal at different speeds. On average, full recovery is 6 weeks. You would need to avoid strenuous activity and heavy lifting for 1 week. Post-op appointments are important to make sure your recovery is on track.

  6. QUESTION:
How much does breast reduction surgery cost?
I was wondering if anyone could quote a price for breast reduction surgery in Australia.

I am 5'1 and a 32E and they give me the worst back ache.

    Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
Not much if you get it covered by insurance.

Insurance covered mine 100% (,000 USD) and I only had to pay a copay for the overnight hospital stay.

  7. QUESTION:
How long is the total healing time after breast reduction surgery?
I am considering breast reduction surgery. I want to know what to expect and what complications others have experienced.

    • ANSWER:
I was out of work for two weeks, and then slowly worked my way back up into full activities after a month.

I was able to shower 24 hours after surgery BUT some PS's want you to wait a few days... different PS's have different methods. I just put my back to the shower head and let the water run over my incisions and steri strips.

Telfa pads from CVS/Rite Aid. They are nonstick pads that you can put over your incisions if they are still leaking. I loved them!

My incisions took at least two months to fully close (so no baths or swimming until the incisions are 10000% closed or else you'll get a nasty infection!).

My swelling went down after a few months (though it can take up to a year to get your final size).

My sensation came back after three months (but can take over a year to regain sensation).

Scars take about a year to fade, so unless they are white do not put them into the sun or they will turn permanently red. Use Mederma and ScarGuard and they will be barely noticeable (like mine!).

Also take some "arnica montana" I bought it on amazon's website. It helped me out a lot with my bruising and swelling.

You have to sleep on your back for a while, at least until the incisions close. Its a pain in the butt, but I bought a wedge pillow and it helped out TONS.

I experienced a few split stitches (it looks like a piece of rice). You don't pull them, you clip them and they eventually dissolve or fall out.

Your incisions MAY scab over. DO NOT pull the scabs. If they don't come off easy, clip the part of the scab that is free and let the part still connected to your breast come off on its own. I had a little bit part of a scab on, I pulled it off, the next day I had this nasty open spot that I had to treat with solutions. It took a month or two to heal. So do not pull scabs off!

LISTEN to your doctor. ANY questions you have, ask the PS first. I've found that different PS's have different methods. Like when to shower, when to travel, when to do normal activities, how to treat open spots, etc.

I have tons of more information for you, but those are the basics.

This site helped me out tons before and after my surgery.

  8. QUESTION:
How to best support a friend after breast reduction surgery?
My best friend will be going through breast reduction surgery in a few days. I want to support her as much as can during the recovery, but unsure of the best way to go about it as it's not a situation I've ever been in before. If you've gone through this type of surgery, how did your friends and family support you? Or how could they have helped you better? I am male, and I'm afraid that also may lead to at least some degree of awkwardness with my friend as well.

    Thanks for any advice

    • ANSWER:
Flowers are nice, and I imagine she would enjoy them.

Is there a special food your friend likes? If so, bring her some as soon as the doctor lifts any dietary restrictions there might be.

Massage her hands and feet: That will help her to relax, and some studies have suggested that just plain touching seems to help the healing process.

Bring her funny movies to watch, and watch them with her.

Above all, if she wants to talk, Listen.

      Good luck, and bless you.

  9. QUESTION:
What do you think of breast reduction surgery?
I'm 19 years old and I am considering having a breast reduction but I think I may be too young right now. Has anyone had this surgery and is it really painful?
I also want to know can you breast feed after having this surgery? It's something that I really need because I have horrible lower back pain and pain around my shoulders.

    • ANSWER:
You are not too young to have surgery. Girls as young as 15 get it done.

I had this surgery and I was in no pain, just a little discomfort.

You can also breastfeed after a reduction.

  10. QUESTION:
Is there any life threatening risks on having a breast reduction surgery?
my sister is going to have a breast reduction surgery and she is scared that something bad will happen to her like dying.
so i was wondering if it is possible to die after or during the surgery?
and what can i do to make her less worried?

    • ANSWER:
Any time anesthesia is administered there is the possibility of death. The doctor and the hospital is required (in the US) to have your sis sign what is called Informed Consent. By law, they have to list all of the things that could go wrong, and one of these items is death. The odds are that your sis will be OK but no one can guarantee that. I personally know 3 people who have had breast reduction surgeries and all 3 were delighted with the results. Post surgery she can expect to look like Frankenstein's bride but with time the scars will fade. The back and neck pain will go away, clothing that fits will be found in stores, and she'll look 25 pounds lighter. If I had large breasts that created problems I'd have the surgery.

  11. QUESTION:

How much pain after breast reduction surgery?
I am getting breast reduction surgery on October 30th. I am starting to get nervous and was hoping to hear from people that have been through this that could let me know about how bad the pain was afterward??

    • ANSWER:
the pain wasn't terrible. i was on pain medication and i took it every 4 hours. the most painful part was the drive home from the hospital. i got in the front seat of my mom's van, but after 2 minutes, i told her to pull over, i sat in the middle seat and reclined the chair with no seat belt. every bump and turn hurt. once i was in my house, it was better. at my first post surgery appt i asked for a refill of the pain pills but then only took them to sleep at night.

don't worry, it is well worth it. i love my results.

      good luck

  13. QUESTION:

If someone had it done before they had kids, have your breasts grown bigger? Have you had to get breast reduction surgery again? Anything that could help me in my decision I would appreciate.

    • ANSWER:

Would they help you get approved?

  15. QUESTION:
How difficult was it to convince your insurance/ doctor that you needed breast reduction surgery?
I am considering breast reduction surgery as the weight of my breasts are killer on my back. I was wondering what people's experiences when going to their regular physicians was? I'm hoping to get this run through my health insurance being that's its a very expensive procedure and I feel like it's medically necessary.

Anyway, I was just wondering about any hurdles anyone went through to get this done and any details about the experience itself.

    • ANSWER:
all insurances are different. over the course of 5 years, i was denied by 2 insurances, my 3rd insurance approved me 100% on the spot. i had letters from the GP, my gyn, my chiropractor, and nothing helped, i wrote appeal letter after appeal letter. after the first 2 i was going to give up, but then i started looking for a new job, i knew 2 insurances would approve, and i joked that i would only take a job where these insurances were, luckily i did. but it was a long 5 year battle. i was a 32DDD and now i am a 32C, it was well worth it.

  16. QUESTION:
what benefits will breast reduction surgery have on a dancer?
i'm a dancer and i have DDD breasts. i'm getting breast reduction surgery in 8 days to a B cup and i was just wondering what benefits this might have on my dancing?

    • ANSWER:
This is probably something you should have considered before the surgery, but going from having a chest to not having one will throw off your balance a bit for a few months. The inertia that you are used to having will not be there for better or worse. Though, if you have been wearing the correct bra's, the effect will likely not be as much as you would orginally think. The only major difference as a dancer is that you will be less likely to be hired for Dance squads/ Cheerleading, Hip-Hop, and Modern Dance squads as nationally they have been looking for more of the curvy women again. If you plan to stick with balet, it'll be a good choice.

Though, I hope you have considered that if you get breast reduction that you will likely not be able to breast feed. With your size as a dancer, as long as you are close to ideal weight it makes some sence to help with classical dance.

  17. QUESTION:
What are some of your experiences with breast reduction surgery? or some advice you may have?

    • ANSWER:
i had a reduction over a year ago. it was the best thing i ever did. it was a 3 month recovery period. now i am doing triathlons and running, and everything is better. my scars are barely noticeable as well.
      good luck

  18. QUESTION:
Is it possible to breastfeed after having breast reduction surgery?
I had a breast reduction when I was 17 and now I'm 25 having my first child. I recall my doctor telling me that I probably wouldn't be able to breastfeed after having the surgery. I have heard stories of women breastfeeding after surgery, but there is no conclusive evidence that breatfeeding is affected by breast reductions. So, is it possible to breastfeed after having breast reduction surgery?

    • ANSWER:
It is possible, the only way to find out is to try! The concern is that when they removed tissue they may have severed necessary nerves or ducts. I highly recommend finding a qualified lactation consultant to work with you immediately after the birth. She will monitor your milk production and make sure your baby is getting enough. 20. QUESTION:
Do you have to have a urinary catheter inserted for breast reduction surgery?
my breast reduction is in one week and i'm super anxious.
my surgeon says i will have to have a catheter inserted during the surgery and i was wondering if that was normal.
other people say that catheters are just for major surgery.
and i'm 16 so i'm not really sure exactly what a catheter is.
so could anyone explain what a catheter is and how it is used and would i need one for my breast reduction.
    thanks!

    • ANSWER:
A catheter is a rubber or silicon tube inserted in your urinary opening into your bladder. It will be inserted after you are put to sleep. This is done for most any surgery that you're put to sleep for and keep your bladder from getting too full while you're asleep by draining it into a catch bag.

This is especially helpful after the surgery. With the catheter left inserted your bladder is kept empty and you won't have to be getting in and out of bed to go to the bathroom which is very uncomfortable after breast reduction for a few days. The catheter is a good thing !

  23. QUESTION:
Anybody know how old you have to be to have breast reduction surgery, in canada?
I'm 13, and I'm almost a D cup, does anyone know how old you have to be for breast reduction surgery, in Canada?

    • ANSWER:
Talk to your GP as it's usually on a individual decision if its making your life suffer. But usually you have to wait until you're breasts have stopped developing which is around 16-18. Your GP is the only one who can decide if you can have one sooner. All you can do in the mean time is embrace your body, we're all different.

once the wounds heal completely you can start applying these things... everyone is different, but my fiance just had hip surgery and has a 15 in. incision that took around a month after surgery to heal enough to put maderma on. we waited until it was completely closed (including the staple holes, or perhaps stitches in your case) and there was no more discharge or scabs.

  26. QUESTION:
Is it okay to go back to school about 11-16 days after getting breast reduction surgery?
After camp (Im a counselor) I have about more then two weeks until I go back to school. In that time I was thinking about getting breast reduction surgery (instead of getting it before camp).
I mean, I of course I wont be doing Gym or anything and maybe I can get somebody to help me hold my books. This is very important and I need to know if anyone has any recommendations?

    • ANSWER:
Two weeks is usually what doctors recommend after a breast reduction. I just had mine done about three weeks ago and i can almost everything other than run, go to the gym, reach up high, lift objects over 15 lbs etc. Just take it slow. if you think you'll need more time then wait. You definitely don't want to jeopardize your results.

  27. QUESTION:
Can I breast feed if I have had a breast reduction surgery?
10 years ago I had a breast reduction surgery. I am very short and needed it done to because I was having severe back pain. I am now thinking about having children and learned that I may not be able to breast feed because of the surgery. Is there any way to know if I will be able to? Also, is there anything I can do to increase the possibility that I will be able to?

    • ANSWER:
Hi - breast reduction and uplift usually means that the nipples are cut away from their old position and re-positioned higher up on the tightened breast. This invariably means damage to milk ducts.

I know someone who had it done and she could produce some milk, but it was clearly not enough.

There is nothing that can increase the possibility of breast feeding if your ducts have been severed or compromised.

Personally I would not even torment myself about this; I would look forward to bottle-feeding my baby on a quality formula milk (and there are SO many around nowadays) and keeping us both sane and happy.

      Good luck.

  31. QUESTION:
What are the details behind a breast reduction surgery?
I'm seventeen, but as soon as i started puberty when I was eleven I magically went from flat to a C cup within a handful of months. Now i'm a double D, and I'm petite. I'm a bit overweight right now and people tend to go "oh those will go down once you lose weight" but i've lost weight before, as much as 40 lbs at once, and they never go down. i'm losing weight right now, but i doubt it'll help any.

I have back pain daily and they are such a hassle with everything. I'm not ashamed of having large breasts but I'm not the type of girl who wants them so big lol. Like I said, i'm petite, and its just difficult.

So what I have been considering for a long time now is a reduction surgery. I've never been under the knife before, and although it doesn't frighten me it's still an experience that needs a lot of consideration.

Has anyone had it? I would like to go down to a small D/ full C.
When they operate do you sort of get a breast lift at the same time?

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
A breast reduction includes a breast lift, and it can be covered by insurance. Find at least three PS's in your insurance plan and then choose. I ended up going with my second consultation so please see several.

      I went from a 38J to a 38C Feb 2006.

This site helped me out in my research a lot. Please check out the FAQ's section as well as the support and possibly apply for the picture board.

  32. QUESTION:
Do you loose feeling in your nipples after getting breast reduction surgery?
I went in for a consultation for a breast reduction about a year ago and the doctor told me that I certainly would loose sensation in my nipples, he wasn't that friendly and I decided not to have the surgery. Other people that I've talked to have had the breast reduction surgery and they've said that they didn't loose sensation or if they did it was only temporarily. I'm a size 38 DD and still want and need to have the surgery so I'm going to another doctor for a consultation in a few weeks.

    • ANSWER:
It would probably depend on how much they were reduced. If it is a goodly amount and they have to reposition the nipples then yes, because the nerves would be cut. You would probably regain some sensation over time.
Yes, you definitely need another doctor. He sounds like an asshole.

  33. QUESTION:
Are scars from breast reduction surgery very unattractive?
I had breast reduction surgery a few years ago, and I still have some very visible scars. I'm so self-conscious about them that I have only let one person see me topless. I'm in my twenties and want to experiment with sex but I don't know how to tell people. I'm worried it will make me very unattractive to the people I'm with. Also, is there a good way to tell people about them or is it okay to not say anything?
Even if you think your answer's mean please post it.

    • ANSWER:
Most people have some scars they are just part of who you are. If you really don't like them look into plastic surgery to get rid of them.

  34. QUESTION:
How expensive is breast reduction surgery?
I'm 5' 5" and weigh 147 right now. My breasts are larger than DDD but I squeeze into DDD bras because that's all I can find. I talked to my doctor about reduction surgery and he is against it. He told me to lose 20 lbs first. I've lost over 20 lbs already and my breasts haven't gone down AT ALL. How expensive is surgery and does health insurance cover it?

    • ANSWER:
Expensive if you want a good job done. I've had two ex girlfriends who had the procedure done. Both times it was messed up. One lost all feeling in her breasts permanently. The other got hyper sensitivity causing her great pain.

  35. QUESTION:
A couple questions about breast reduction surgery?
I am thinking about getting a breast reduction and I wanted to know 1. What the pain level after the surgery is. 2. How long will I have to be on pain meds for? 3. Will i spend a night or two in the hospital after surgery? 4. Do they re-size your nipple to go with the size of your breasts?
    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
      1. pain level was minimal. i was given pain killers. what i really remember was that i was very hot after i woke up from the anesthesia.
      2. i was on them for a week, the 2nd week, only at night, then that was it. but everyone is different.
      3. this is considered out patient surgery. i was at the hospital for 23hours. starting from the time i came out of surgery.
      4. no.

      good luck

  36. QUESTION:
Anyone who has had or is considering breast reduction surgery?
    I'm 18 years old and considering getting a breast reduction. I'm 5'3", 105 pounds and I have 32 E breasts.
I've heard there are very large scars involved.
My question is, is the surgery worth the scars? And along with that, is the recovery bearable?

    • ANSWER:
i had a breast reduction in oct. my scars are healing nicely and if they are like my friend's who had the same surgery by the same doctor, they will be barely visible in about a year. even if this were not the case, having the surgery was the best decision i ever made and i am very happy with the results. i was a 32DDD/E and now I am a 32C and I couldn't be happier.
but only you can make the deicion on what is best for you.

      good luck!

  38. QUESTION:
Anyone had experience with breast reduction surgery?
I'm considering having breast reduction surgery - can anyone give me any advice? I'm a 16DD and have finished having my babies so don't have the worry of breast feeding in the future. I'd like to hear the good (or bad) that happened to you.

    • ANSWER:
      I had a reduction from a 38J to a 38C and don't regret it one bit.

I have no regrets and nothing bad happened to me, it was totally worth it.

  39. QUESTION:
How old for breast reduction surgery?
I'm almost 15 and a size 32DD bra. I would like to be a C cup, how old should I be to get breast reduction surgery? I've heard a range from 15 years old-18 years old (for teenagers, obviously you can still get it done after 18 too). I'd like to get the procedure ASAP

    • ANSWER:
      Hi Alia,

I don't know what fool is giving the decent answers 'thumbs down', but whoever they are feel free to do mine too - then feel free to pop out and get a life. :)

No decent surgeon would recommend breast reduction until after the age where a girl may continue to develop breast tissue - that means early twenties (say 21). Now, don't panic that that means you'll definitely continue to grow until that age - you probably won't - but there's a chance until then, and you wouldn't want to go through surgery twice if you are reduced then grow again! A reduction in your mid-teens would only be considered for urgent medical reasons (and you're nowhere near large enough to have any risk there), or because the surgeon is more interested in money than doing the right thing.

A few other thoughts, which you may or may not find helpful - but feel free to ignore me! :) First - you're really not that big. 32DD may seem huge to you now because they're new and very different to most girls your age, but in a few years those girls will be all sorts of shapes and sizes, and to many people (male and female) you have the 'perfect size' - quite large, but not crazy large, on a slim frame is a fantastic combination, honestly! My ex is a 34F so I do understand that at times larger natural breasts can be inconvenient, but they're far from all bad. This is another good reason to wait before making any decisions on surgery - you may well find that in a few years you will feel differently about your figure, and may well come to appreciate it much more.

Finally - do not think of surgery as an 'easy option'. It is not a magic wand - it is serious, invasive surgery with very real risks and side effects, including inability to breast feed, loss of sensation, significant scarring and an unnatural 'look' - it does not magically create perfect natural C cups - it takes large breasts and makes them smaller, that's all. It's also expensive.

I would really encourage you to take your time, see how you feel in a few years, and in the meantime try to focus on the positives and be proud of your curves just the way they are. Being a 32 band size you can't possibly be overweight, but if you want to tone up and lose a bit of body fat (breasts are mostly made up of fat by the way, and some glandular tissue and supporting ligaments) try running - it's really good cardio exercise and will burn fat from all over your body, breasts included, so you may lose a cup size or so.

Hope some of that helps, stay smiley! :)

  40. QUESTION:
Hi I was wandering if any women on here have had breast reduction surgery at the harley street medical group?
in London ? If so were you pleased with the results and Could anyone tell me the price of breast reduction surgery at the harley street ?

    • ANSWER:
I had mine done some years ago at a North London training hospital for plastic surgeons. It was done by Mr Olle Asplund and his trainee, I was very pleased with it.
If you look for Mr Dai Davies, or Mr Percival they are both still running this hospital. It is a teaching hospital so it will cost you less, they all work in Harley Street when not training others. hope this helps as they will give you all the info you need.
My friend recently went there to have a face lift and she was also very`pleased.

  43. QUESTION:
How bad is the pain after Breast Reduction surgery? (for anyone who has ever had it or known someone who has)?
I am scheduled to have my breast reduction surgery in 2 weeks, i want to know what to expect. so if anyone can please tell me about the pain and discomfort, and how it was afterwards and anything else to expect I would highly appreciate it!

    • ANSWER:
Typically, the full recovery period isn't complete for at least 6 months to a year. Pain medication is typically required, but compared to other plastic surgery procedures, its very manageable. Generally, the pain lasts for about 2-4 weeks, but strenuous activities, like heavy lifting, etc. should be avoided for about a month or more

  45. QUESTION:
Do you have any info on breast reduction surgery?
My insurance will conver breast reduction surgery for me. I have heard the surgeons spheel and now I am looking for first hand info.

I would like to know the pain involved, recovery time, or anything else you would like to tell me.

    Thanks

    • ANSWER:
First hand experience! I went from a G cup (seriously!) to a D in December of 2004. The surgeon took off 13 pounds from me - he said it was the largest he had ever done. I had three compressed vertebrae, was in constant pain and was tired of being gawked at. By far the best thing I've ever done. I was off work for three weeks. The first couple of days are painful, especially if you drainage tubes. Because the tubes are inserted into you, shifting positions can make you sore. They give you narcotic painkillers and your best bet is rest. I propped myself up on pillows, watched movies and just slept. My surgery was performed on Friday. My drainage tubes were removed on Wednesday (warning, when they pull them, it hurts like hades, but only briefly, once they're gone, the pain is pretty much over!). I took painkillers on Wednesday and Thursday morning. After that, it was plain Tylenol! I was a bit tired, but it really didn't hurt. Because of the stitches, they don't want you exercising or lifting anything. My Mum came to stay with me and took care of everything.

The relief in my back was immediate. Within two weeks post-surgery, my vertebrae had completely decompressed. I do have some scarring on my sides and underneath because he removed a huge amount of tissue, but the results are so stunningly beautiful! I still look in the mirror all the time and admire them, they're perky and cute! Its amazing how wonderful it feels to have someone look in my eyes when they're talking to me now. Good luck to you! It will change your life.

  46. QUESTION:
I have DD breasts and I am overweight- I am losing weight now, should I get breast reduction surgery or wait?
I am currently a DD cup size, 270 pounds and 5'10". I am losing weight and I am going to continue on this diet and exercise routine until I get to my desired weight of 185. Will my breast shrink to a D or C when I lose weight, or should I get a breast reduction surgery now while I have health insurance?

    • ANSWER:
every insurance has different criteria. i was a 32DDD/E, 5'1", 120 lbs. I was denied by 2 insurances saying I wasn't big enough. Finally the 3rd insurance I had approved me. It was a long 5 year process to finally get approved. In the end, 1.5lbs was removed from each breast. I am now a 32C/D and couldn't be happier.

When I went for my consultation, they told me for my height, I had to be under 130 lbs, which i was. Because when I was denied by the first two, I asked them what if I hypothetically gained weight to get my boobs biiger. they said that they the insurance would tell me to lose weight.

i suggest you make a consultation with a surgeon and discuss your options.

  47. QUESTION:
Is breast reduction surgery safer than getting breast implants (to make them bigger)?
I know that women can develop health problems from getting surgery to make their breasts larger...Is it because they're having silicone implanted into their body?

How is breast reductions surgery different? Is it safer? Is it possible for a woman to die from breast reduction surgery?

    • ANSWER:
Probably the danger in both is the anesthetic. I had breast reduction surgery, and the only concern on my part and the medical team was my asthma and the anesthetic. It went fine. They observed me to make sure, but all was well. I had no complications from the surgery, and not only did it relieve my chronic back and shoulder pain, but made my breathing easier. I was actually able to exericise aerobically without pain - and without having an asthma attack due to the incredible weight on my chest before the surgery. I don't know why anyone would want implants (unless they are totally flat - it's the implants to become big that I don't understand). I absolutely could not find anything good about having very large heavy breasts. I hated it when I grew them at age 13 and still hated them at age 26 when I had the BR done. I don't miss them in the least now, five years later. I tried to like them, but couldn't find a reason why. I love my breasts now. They are beautifcul.

  48. QUESTION:
Breast Reduction- Has anyone had this surgery using the Le Jour technique?
    Hi
I am 21, have size 12G breasts and am having breast reduction surgery in 12 weeks time. My surgeon will be performing the "Le Jour" or informally named "Lollipop" technique.

I am wondering if anyone else has had this same procedure?
    If so;
    Are the scars healing well?
How much time did you take off work?
How long were you in pain for?

I would really appreciate any relevant answers.
    Thankyou.

    • ANSWER:
I had the anchor technique and I had no pain. I know others who have had the LeJour technique and they have had little to no pain as well. Your breasts will look weird for a bit, but be patient and wait for them to drop.

http://www.breasthealthonline.com has a forum to talk with others about breast reduction. it helped me A LOT before during and after my surgery.

  49. QUESTION:
will medicaid pay for my breast reduction surgery?
I have very large heavy breasts. they cause me back pain, my bra straps cut into my shoulders and back i get rashes underneath my breasts from them sagging so much onto my stomach and if i do wear a wire bra then the wire presses against my top ribs causing severe pain. I have medicaid in NY. will they pay for the breast reduction surgery?

    • ANSWER:
It should pay for it since it's causing back pain.

  50. QUESTION:
What are the cons of breast reduction surgery?
I'm 18 and I currently wear a 40DDD.My back is in pain because of it and I hate that I can't wear certain tops, but what are the cons of breast reduction?I really would like to know.

    • ANSWER:
      Think of your boyfriend here!
I also am going for this surgery in six months time, Yes you do need drain tubes, but think of the wonderful results, less back pain, and shoulder pain, neck as well. It will hurt, for some time, but in the long run, it will be the best thing for you. Take care, and don't worry, long term affects far outway the discomfort from the actual surgery. Take care.
Pros.. no more back pain (if you have experienced this due to the weight of your breasts), fitting into tops/shirts of your interest.

Cons... All I can think of is the recovery process.
No- using the drains is actually involved in outdated techniques for breast reduction. There are many new technique now which use minimal incisions and therefore minimal scarring, for example an older technique is the anchor method with a scar running around and down from the nipple and under the breast, the most popular technique now is the Le Jour incision which involves scarring only around the nipple and directly down (there is no scar underneath the breasts). I suppost the pros would be that you have smaller breasts but that is also a con (if you are like me I am a bit sad about losing breast size), you will no longer have back, neck, shoulder etc pain. You will be able to wear great clothes without looking fat and a wierd shape and the list of pros goes on and on.

      Good luck !!!
