Breast augmentation surgery is a cosmetic or reconstructive procedure to enhance the size and shape of the breasts. Breast augmentation is a highly individualized procedure that requires careful thought and planning. Learn more about how to create a custom breast augmentation procedure to meet your needs.
Schedule a Consultation to Create a Custom Breast Augmentation Procedure
The consultation is a crucial part of planning your breast augmentation surgery. During the pre-operative appointment, you will be presented with many options for customizing the procedure. Open communication with your doctor is the best way to create a custom breast augmentation procedure to meet your needs.
The surgeon will conduct a medical examination and describe what can realistically be achieved through breast augmentation surgery. You will need to establish a grounded understanding about the benefits, limitations and risks for the procedure. Through the guidance of your breast augmentation doctor, decisions about the incision, type of implant and placement will be made. Planning should be made with your physique and current breast size in mind.
Custom Breast Augmentation: Type of Implant
You have the option between silicone and saline breast implants. Saline implants have a silicone shell and are filled with a solution that matches your body chemistry. Silicone implants are filled with silicone gel.
In addition to breast implant material, there are differences in shape. For breast augmentation surgery, implants can be round, oval or anatomical. There is conflicting evidence regarding anatomical implants and whether they actually provide the most natural-looking results. Some implants are also inflatable, which allows for more control over symmetry.
The surface of your implants can be textured or smooth. Some surgeons hold firm that textured implants reduce the risk of capsular contracture. Capsular contracture occurs when scar tissue forms around the implant, hardening the breasts. Other breast augmentation doctors prefer smooth implants.
Create a Breast Augmentation Procedure to Meet Your Needs: Type of Incision
The location of the incision may rest on what your surgeon is comfortable with doing. If you have a preference, locate a cosmetic surgeon accordingly. Breast augmentation surgery can be performed under four different types of incisions, with no one method necessarily safer than the others.
The most common incisions for a breast augmentation procedure are in the crease of the breast or underneath the areola. Incisions can also be located in the armpit or through the navel. Breast augmentation surgery through the navel leaves virtually no scar. However, choosing an implant that is filled pre-operatively will lessen your options for the type of incision.
Custom Breast Augmentation Procedure: Sub Glandular Implant Placement
During breast augmentation surgery, the implants can be placed differently. Sub glandular placement is right behind the glands and in front of the pectoral muscle. Sub glandular placement may not be suitable for patients without enough breast tissue. However, women with larger breasts may find it adds a little lift.
Custom Breast Augmentation: Partial Sub Muscular Placement
Partial sub muscular placement is between the major and minor pectoral muscles. This can enhance cleavage and create a natural appearance. However, partial sub muscular breast augmentation is more complicated. Recovery may cause substantial discomfort.
Custom Breast Augmentation: Full Sub Muscular Placement
Full sub muscular is placement behind the muscle. Results for full sub muscular breast augmentation require the longest adjustment period. It can take several months before noticing the results.
However, many patients find the body's adjustment to full sub muscular breast augmentation well worth the wait. Breasts usually look entirely natural. There is also a reduced risk for capsular contracture and rippling.
Locate a Qualified Surgeon and Create a Custom Breast Augmentation Procedure
An experienced breast augmentation doctor is essential for the proper guidance. A qualified surgeon is certified by and accredited organization, such as the American Board of Plastic Surgery. For more information about breast augmentation, or for help locating a doctor, visit DocShop.com.

What does a good breast augmentation procedure cost these days?
my girlfriend is interested in getting it done. We are just starting to gather info on the subject.
She wants to go from a size A to a 34C-
ANSWER:
Breast augmentation surgery is very safe nowadays. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges Tummy tuck, Liposuction surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Fly2india4health Consultants. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. I have also read that they arrange financing for international patients, as all surgery is not covered by insurance or by the stinking NHS.They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor I personally believe that your Tummy tuck, Liposuction surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of Healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.
My cousin got her Tummy tuck, Liposuction surgery done there and she is more than very happy with the results. She is all praise for Fly2india4health Consultants. She paid just 20% of the cost what she was quoted in USA and it was like a wonderful vacation for her. Hope this helps

QUESTION:
Best Breast Augmentation Procedure?
I'am planning on getting a breast augmentation in this upcoming year. I'm curious on others oppinions on the different kinds of procedures and which they think is the best (Inframammary Fold Incision , Transaxillary Incision , TUBA Incision , or the Peri-areolar Incision.) Anyone who performs this surgery or has had a kind of surgery have any opinions?-
ANSWER:
go to the forum at www.breastimplants411.com Mine was done in the crease of my breasts. My plastic surgeon recommended it so I pretty much did whatever he suggested. There's women on that forum who've have tubas and some who've gone through the underarm. I've learned soo much for that forum and wish I had found it before my surgery. I would have done things a little different. But anyways you can post questions, answer them, or just read to learn. It's really informative. And you can see if maybe someone's used the same surgeon as you. Good luck!I was just reading some of the other's answers and just to correct those: I know two women who've had their implants in for over 15 and 20 years. You real breasts will in fact sag. If you chose to have the implant placed under the muscle, the implants will not fall. You CAN most likely breastfeed afterward. And not all implants look fake. There are sizes to choose from IDIOTS!! So if you want a C you can get a C. Your sister was given the option to have less CCs put in. Not everyone will end up with DDs, unless they choose that. Obviously your sister didn't know what the hell she was doing. And it's not that big of a health risk nowadays. And they are NOT hard unless they get capsular contracture, which happens if you dont care for them like you should, (i.e. massaging!) Just needed to inform the unintelligent idiots who just think implants are the worst things for your body in the world. And I would bet half of them smoke ciggarettes. STUPID IGNORANT PPL!

QUESTION:
Breast Augmentation is a thriving industry in the U.S. What is your opinion of the procedure and how do you?
Breast Augmentation is a thriving industry in the U.S. What is your opinion of the procedure and how do you feel about women who choose to undergo breast enlargement for cosmetic reasons.-
ANSWER:
I have a couple of friends who have done this recently. While I wouldn't mind surgically enhancing my mams, I don't want to pay the money and have the pain that goes with the procedure. I am relatively comfortable in my own skin, and as much as I've thought about doing it over the years, I've decided that it's not worth the money to get something that would cause me to get unwanted attention.
I think if it makes a gal feel better, then do it.

QUESTION:
Breast augmentation question for women who have actually had the procedure done?
I have researched the price of an augmentation and was just wondering since there is a variety of prices what does it all depend on? Is it by how big you get them or what kind of incision or type of breast that you get. If you get them smaller will they cost less than if you get them bigger? I know all doctors charge different but I was just wondering what they go by. Thanks!-
ANSWER:
Hello I had mine done last year and the price was 00 he gave me a list of what it all went towards like surgery room fee, implants and time and so on the price doesn't change with size but does change with the type (ex: saline or silicone) I could also see it depending on incision price not sure though I went with the typical areaola incision. The best thing to do is go have a consultation some plastic surgeon do free consultations (mine did) and they will write you up a list of everything the money goes into and what type of loans they will do and all that. Also if you need help finding a great plastic surgeon I recommend implantinfo.com they have a discussion forum and the women are always nice and willing to answer your questions and that's where I found my plastic surgeon adn was extremely happy. If you have anymore questions feel free to email me.

QUESTION:
what is the best breast surgery procedure to get, augmentation or lift?
im looking at getting surgery to the breasts & wanted to know all your experiences with the procedure. whats more or less painfull after the procedure & which one lasts the longest. & which costs more-
ANSWER:
well they are different. augmentation is just enlargement. if you dont have very much breast tissue then you would go with augmentaton. lift is to fix drooping so if you have very saggy breast but enough tissue you would go with that. but with some sagging, if you get large enough implants you wouldnt need a lift. i had breast augmentation about2 months ago. i got 425cc moderate plus silicone gel implants. before the procedure i was a 34a. now i am a 34 large c. i paid 00 dollars but that was the highest quote i got. the lowest was 00 for silicone, the silicone tend to cost about 00 more than the saline but they look and feel much more natural, mine feel like real breasts now that they have settled. i think breast lifts cost about the same, maybe a little more because that is a more difficult procedure. i am very happy with my results. they look very natural, not fake at all. after the surgery i pretty much slept the entire day when i got home. the next day i was very sore but nothing unbearable and the pain meds took the edge off, the pain subsided a little each day and i was pain free by day 4 or 5. i needed help sitting up the first 4-5 days. i was back to regular activity by the 5th day, no heavy excercising or lifting though. by about the month mark they had dropped and all of the swelling was gone. it was one of the best decisions i made for myself. if you are interested in augmentation feel free to email me with any questions. candace_ green88 @yahoo .com id be more than happy to tell you whatever you want to know.

QUESTION:
Breast augmentation with transaxillary endoscopic procedure...?
I would like any info about the newer surgery for breast augmentation and breast lift....It is tranaxillary endoscopic....Please let me hear from you if you have had or know someone who has had this type of procedure and how it went...Thanks in advance.....
I am DD and am having them reduced to a D and lifted ( only because I don't want just a lift..don't like the results I have seen )....just curious if this procedure works..-
ANSWER:
the transaxillary endoscopic procedure is used for breast augmentation, not for breast reduction and lift. the incision is located in the armpit and an endoscope is used to position the implant into the breast area. for reduction and lift, you will need another technique, since the excision of breast tissue cannot be done with the endoscope.

QUESTION:
What's the best kind of breast SURGERY PROCEDURE?
OK, I HAVE SMALL BREAST AND I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A BREAST AUGMENTATION. COULD ANYONE TELL ME WHAT BREAST PROCEDURE YOU HAD OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW WHO HAS HAD SURGERY THERE THOUGHTS AND HOW IT WENT.-
ANSWER:
As a mammographer, I am not a fan of breast implants. As we know, early detection of breast cancer DOES save lives. It is very hard to find an early breast cancer on mammography, even with improved techniques. The implant hides the breast tissue on the film. Please research this aspect of it. If you still decide to have implants, have them put in BEHIND the chest wall. That will allow a bit more breast tissue to be imaged during mammography. Good luck to you and please do your homework! Here are what some "experts" say. You can go to the links for additional info:
Breast implant interference with imaging breast tissue, with between 22% and 83% of mammographically visualizable breast tissue obscured by breast implants. http://www.fda.gov/cdrh/breastimplants/b-adverse-events.html
In women without implants, mammography detected 67% of cancers. In women with implants, mammography detected 45% of cancers. http://www.breastcancer.org/breast_implant_mammogram.html
Screening mammography missed 55% of breast cancers in women with implants, compared with only 33% among women without implants. http://www.menagainstbreastcancer.org/online_support/resources/mammography_and_breast_implants.php

i just had a breast augmentation procedure three weeks ago... i was really worried about going too large. i was a small 32A. i told the doctor i wanted to be a small C. he recomended that i go 350cc's. i took a jump and went to 360cc's under the muscle... now that its all over and done with, im absolutely DEPRESSED about my breast size. i asked the doctor to be a C and im barely a full B.... i feel really depressed about not going larger... by the looks of my size i think i should have gone as far as 420cc's.... im so sad about the outcome that i feel like having another surgery to make them the size i wanted them to be.... right now i dont have the money to get them re-done so im feeling like i should drop 10 pounds... (im currently 120) ..... im thinking if i drop 10 pounds, then my breast will look alot more fuller and larger with a smaller frame.... i was just hoping if there were more options out there for me besides loosing weight or going to have another procedure done....-

They will harden and leave scar tissue and lose shape. A bad idea. Don't do this for a man or anyone else. You need counseling to deal with low self-esteem and it is unlikely you need to lose weight. Ask for a screening on depression.

QUESTION:
Is it safe to have a second breast augmentation?
I had a breast augmentation to fix my sclerosis. Thankfully, the augmentation was enough to fix the deformity without more cutting than a small incision (in some cases more reconstructive work is required). I would like to have them redone to improve their shape. What are the risks of having a second procedure?
-
ANSWER:
The risks involved with breast revision surgery are the same as the first augmentation. The only difference with the revision is that there will be scar tissue from the original implant that the surgeon will have to work through. Im not sure where you are but there is a surgeon in Beverly Hills named Dr. Stuart Linder who is a specialist at breast augmentation and breast revision surgery. Ill include the link below to both of his websites, possibly if you are local you can contact him or his website will provide you with the information you need.

QUESTION:
Breast augmentation personal stories?
I am planning on getting a breast augmentation summer of next year. I would love to hear any words of advice or testimonials from women who have had this procedure done, especially concerning recovery time and things done to ease the discomfort following surgery. Thanks!-
ANSWER:
Do your research, speak to someone who has been to that doctor, and check into what type of procedure you would would work better for your body type. Example: implant placed over or under the muscle, enter thru belly button, nipple, armpit or under breast line etc..... I've had mine done & I am very happy with them. Go to a consultation & ask the doctor all the questions. He/She will be honest with you & listen to the doctor....not people. Recovery depends on your body (immune system) and what procedure you have done. Normally, recovery is about 1-2 weeks. No lifting for couple of weeks. You will be surprised how often you use your chest muscles. My implants are over the muscle...the implant placed under the muslce tends to be more painful. Also, when they enter thru the armpit, nipple or belly button....it requires more cutting and you do have a better chance of damaged nerves. My cuts are under the breast line and you can't even see them. No sensitivity lost at all. Good luck.

QUESTION:
Im looking to getting a breast augmentation and I want to know of a place that gives free consultations in Tx?
I live in the fort worth area in Texas and I would like to know of a place to get seen for free. And also maybe a good place to go to have the procedure done as well. Some help that is real help would greatly be appreciated! Please dont help if you have something irrelevant to say or its going to be something dumb. Thanks!
-
ANSWER:
Nearly all cosmetic practices offer the consult for free or for a pretty nominal amount. I would stick to a board certified plastic surgeon if you want implants and preferably one who has a lot of experience. Revision rate is nearly 50% within 3y for silicone and about 20% for saline. You may want to consider using your own fat for breast augmentation if you want to increase by 1-2 cup sizes. This procedure requires no revisions although additional fat can be transplanted later if needed and there's no need to replace it ever, after all it is your fat! There is only one place in Texas that does this, that I know of and the information is on their website listed as my source.

QUESTION:
What are your thoughts on breast augmentation and getting it done overseas?
Is there anyone who has had the procedure done overseas?-
ANSWER:
Personally I would not have any surgery done overseas, no matter how "cheap" it is.After you figure in passport, airline, hotel, three meals a day, etc costs, I feel it would just be better to have it done in the States.
Also, you shouldn't be doing too much traveling after surgery.
Plus, what happens if something goes wrong? What choices do you have to take care of anything legally?
IF you do go overseas, do your research on the doctor you decide upon and be very careful.

It seems like the swelling is getting worse. I'm so swollen it is painful. I keep putting the ice packs on and taking my meds and all but does not seem to be helping. Or is it too early? I just had the procedure done on Thursday.-
ANSWER:
the swelling actually may continue for a week or two after surgery. I was so swollen and funky looking for about a month!Did your surgeon tell you to use ice? Mine said NO ice...the cold causes constriction of the capillaries which actually inhibits the healing process because blood, nutrients and oxygen arent getting to injured tissue.
dont take any pain meds other then what is ordered and dont take more then what is ordered! Because many people know ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory, many people tend to pop a could of them just to get rid of the inflammation following surgery, but the problem is that ibuprofe/motrin has blood thinning properties and cause cause some nasty hematoma formation/bruising. Also, alot of rx pain meds such as percocet already contain tylenol...so taking some OTC tylenol (thinking its harmless) can actually caue a tylenol OD which can potentially result in death.
you should def drink extra fluids, esp water. this may help mobilize some of the fluids causing the inflammation. Also, it will help with the nearly inevitable constipation that follows surgery/anesthesia/pain meds!
So anyhow, sorry, your prolly gonna just have to wait it out. it will get better, dont freak out if you look super funky for a while. It was a good 4-5 months before i started to look like i had normal boobs! I just had mine done in April and they are looking good recently.
but...have someone take a pic of your boobs (front and side angle) every two days or so. This way if you feel like they arent looking 'normal' and look the same as the day after surgery you can compare pics and acutally see the subtle changes that DO happen even if you dont notice in the mirror.
best of luck to you and the girls!

QUESTION:
I want to get breast lift with augmentation. I heard it was painful. Anyone had this procedure?
I really want to do this procedure but its such a big procedure. Plus i am a diabetic too. but i was just wanting to know if anyone has had this done and if it is painful-
ANSWER:
Breast augmentation surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her breast reduction, tummy tuck and facelift surgery in India by the company called Forerunners Healthcare .The Price for the surgery she paid in India was very less. She paid 30% of the cost she was quoted in America.Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. They arrange cosmetic and plastic surgery for foreigners in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as the breast reduction, tummy tuck, facelift and other cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

QUESTION:
Why is nipple sensation more often lost with bilateral mastectomy and not augmentation?
With bilateral mastectomy it is nearly impossible to regain erotic nipple sensation, why isn't this the case for breast augmentation, surely both procedures are likely damage or cut the nipple nerve stem under neath.-
ANSWER:
Already mentioned...but just remember that in a mastectomy ur removing lots of tissue (often including the axillary contents) from the mammaries and the underarm areas. In augmentation, ur sliting to get an opening, then adding...way different outcomes.

QUESTION:
Breast Implants?
Hi everybody, I was just wondering what your thoughts were on getting breast implants. I am really thinking about getting the breast augmentation procedure done myself, because I am 5'6.5" and currently a 34 A and I am very self conscious about my breasts. My small breast size really makes me self conscious when I go out into public, and I really hate my small chest. I am so tired of wearing padded bras to every event that I go to as well. Also, as a side note, all the women in my family have small busts, so I know I won't be getting any bigger.A few main questions that I had were:
1. Guys do you totally rule out dating a woman with breast implants?
2. What would be a proportional breast size to my height?
3. To Women who had the breast augmentation procedure done:
Are you happy with your results?
4. What type of implants do you believe to be the best type (ex: saline, silicon, etc)? All help will be greatly appreciated!
-
ANSWER:
There will always be guys that say "ew implants feel awful!" but really, some women have such fantastic results that a guy wouldn't ever know if you didn't tell them. But again, do this for you, not them.
When you go on plastic surgeon consults, they will be able to advise you on what size you should go. But don't let them pressure you into a size you're not comfortable with.
I had breast implants put in b/c I had severe asymmetry(C cup on one side A on the other!). I am VERY happy with my results. I researched soooo much leading up to my first consult. I knew exactly what I needed to ask. I got lucky and felt confident with my first surgeon and ended up with great results. Make sure you chose a surgeon that is board certified in Plastic Surgery. Most people will recommend that you go on a few consults to make sure of who you're choosing.
I have heard many great things about silicone. Silicone has obviously gotten a bad rep over the years. Once you do the research, you will see they're not as horrible as many make them out to be. Unfortunately for me, they weren't available when I got my implants. I do plan on getting them next time though! Silicone is much softer than saline. Since you are starting out with very little breast tissue, you probably want to go with silicone. Also I strongly suggest you find a surgeon that puts them under the muscle. If an implant is placed above the muscle, your skin often times can't adequately support the weight, and you will have severe sagging. There are different shapes of implants too. Your surgeon will also be able to advise you on what kind you should go with.
